I have decided to thin out my collection of guitars and will be putting three or four on eBay over the next few weeks. This auction is for an Ovation Breadwinner solid bodied electric guitar in the more popular white textured finish complete with original Ovation hard case. I first saw a Breadwinner in 1972/73 and at a price of £200 it was beyond my budget as a teenager. It was being sold as a guitar that could, using the pick-up selector and phase switch, mimic other guitars and I remember making it sound like a Gibson Les Paul and Fender Telecaster although I haven't managed to do the same with this guitar. This is an earlier model with two single pole toroidal pickups and is in very good to fine condition. As mentioned it comes with its original Ovation case which is also in very good for fine condition. This guitar was spotted and purchased in Athens a few years ago and seldom comes out of it's case which is a shame as it is perfectly balanced for playing sitting or standing and the neck is just wide enough to play in a classical picking style. A few celebrity guitar players have used this model including Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA, David Cassidy, Glen Campbell, Steve Marriot and Robert Smith of The Cure. The website www.doremi.co.uk/breadwinner gives more information including the wiring diagrams and instructions on how to achieve various sounds. I have priced this guitar to sell and realise it is not the most expensive one on eBay however feel the start price is fair for a guitar in such good condition. Postage/Courier costs will be at cost although I would prefer collection so that the buyer can see the guitar before making payment. I am more than happy, within reason, to meet a buyer half way rather than trust the guitar to the postal system. For the purpose of this eBay listing I have quoted £30 which should be more than enough to cover a courier and insurance. Any questions please do email through eBay and viewing is recommended if you are near Southampton or Bournemouth.
