Conn 88H Professional Tenor TromboneFrom the Legendary Elkhart Plant8 1/2 Inch Bell.547 Large BoreTraditional Wrap F AttachmentDeco EngravingSerial Number 937 XXX - 1961No DentsGreat Slide ActionThis is a wonderful example of one of the most sought after trombones ever made. The Conn 88h's made in the Elkhart factory are copied by modern manufacturers, especially the high end custom makers and sought after by both collectors and those making a living playing their trombone.I totally buy into this phenomenom- I was lucky enough to have my parents buy me a new Conn 88H in 1967 and I still love and treasure it.The combination of rose brass and lighter weight bell give the Elkies a lively, singing feel and sound that you simply do not get in other trombones. When you play an Elkie, you can immediately feel the vibrations in your left arm and in your face. The sound you get is warm, rich and full of color. This is a trombone designed for the symphonic world but will fit in every setting, from orchestra, to concert band to jazz to chamber. Truly a wonderful all around instrument. This one came to me in pretty good shape. Some dentwork was done on the bell throat and tuning slide- the bell plare itself was in great shape. The inner tubes are almost perfect- jsut one spot of plating wear at the bottom of one stocking twice the size of a pin head- rare and excellent shape for an early 60's Elkhart Conn. Lacquer was failing on the bell throat and had grips so new coat was applied. Slide did need and was given a cleaning and alignment . Slide is now what you want from a great instrument - fast free smooth and quiet. What it leaves you with is a gorgeous horn with no dents and a beautiful clear shiny finish. The slide is probably better than new- fast, free, smooth and quiet. Valve works easily and is faster than any of the new heavier valves that were not available in 1961. This is a great playing Elkie that looks the part.Comes with the original case in good condition- latches springs etc and aBach 6 1/2AL mouthpiece like the one I played on my 88H.Of all the Elkhart trombones made, this falls right in the middle of the very most desirable years, the early to mid 60's. These are becoming fewer and fewer between.I will ship well packed to the lower 48 states for $60 and elsewhere for actual cost by US Postal service. Europe and Japan should expect to pay about $100 for shipping - Australia a bit more.No Reserve or Buy It Now on this one- Auction will set the price and High Bidder wins it!!!
