VEGA VOX II TENOR BANJO Vega VOX II Tenor Banjo, est. 1931 S/N 97273, Beautiful Vintage Condition With Original Hardshell Case Used Great condition for its age I recall the "D String" tuner being "a little loose" to me (in that i questioned if it would hold the proper tension for the string that is on the banjo) ... that being said, i did tune it up about a month ago, and let it stand, and all the strings stayed in tune. I don't want to tighten the screw ... so, i would recommend either replacing the tuner with a newer, better geared tuner ... OR ... leaving this tuner on the banjo for the vintage condition and look that it is in ... your decision based on how you are going to use the instrument.
I also found a green cardboard "Vega Tag and string" that was in the case from the person I purchased the banjo from many years ago ... it was in my banjo scrapbook ... but i think it should go with the banjo to the person who purchases this instrument, so i will put this in the case for you.
Vintage Vega VOX II Tenor Banjo. I would estimate that it was made around late 1931 based on research from the "WhiteTreeAZ" website under "vintage" and then "banjomfg". Beautiful Wood & Condition. Serial number is 97273 stamped into the wooden neck dowel that extends into the body. Instrument has its original gold plating which is still is decent shape based on its age. Instrument includes the original (rare) arm rest mute that came out at that time to give more tonal variations for the banjo in various musical settings. I have owned this banjo for approximately forty years. I am the second owner of the instrument. Original owner bought the instrument in the early 1930's and I bought it in the mid 1970's. It has been stored in a smoke free environment that has always been temperature controlled and the instrument is in great shape for its age. The wood is beautiful. I used to play this many years ago in the San Diego area when I was learning the Tenor Banjo, but I moved to college in the late 1970's and had started to play the plectrum banjo and did not have room for both Banjo's in my college environment. So, I now mainly play the guitar and plectrum banjo. I am no longer playing this beautiful tenor banjo and would like this instrument to go to someone that appreciates its original beauty. In the late 1970's I performed the Tenor Banjo part of the George Gershwin composition Rhapsody In Blue with a Symphony Orchestra, and this banjo sounded beautiful and magnificent!!! Comes with the original Vega case that has been used. Case is in good shape, but it does show normal wear for its age and the ribbon holders are gone that used to be attached to hold the top of the case at a ninety degree angle when opened. The handle looks original to me, but it is worn and the finish layer is peeling off. There are a couple of nicks on the neck which are pictured on the last two photographs that are cosmetic and do not affect the playing at all. The one head screw (of a couple dozen head screws) at about the three o'clock position is very tarnished and can be seen in picture seven. Will be wrapped carefully and lovingly and shipped with care. I prefer shipping very early in the week to minimize any time the package would be sitting in a truck over the weekend. I also MAY upgrade to FedEx shipping (I will cover the difference in any cost from what the eBay shipping calculator charges you) ... please provide your phone number as that is a required field in the FedEx shipping air bill. Please look at pictures for actual item that is included. If you have any questions, please email me. Sold as is. No returns. Please pay immediately (read: as quickly as practical) after auction ends, so the transaction can be finished and shipped as timely as possible. Only PayPal accepted as payment in full for this item. Ships only to address provided at time of payment as verified and sent by PayPay. Instrument will be put into its case, and then into a cardboard box, and surrounded carefully with recycled packing materials (to be as efficient as possible) and to protect the case from moving around inside the box during transport as much as practical, and shipped with care.Instrument is packed and ready to ship, so i am not able to answer any questions that need me to look at the actual instrument. That being said, i will answer questions as beast as i can recall.
I prefer shipping very early in the week to minimize any time the package would be sitting in a truck over the weekend. At time of shipping, I may upgrade to faster FedEx (at no additional cost to you), so if you purchase this instrument, if you can please provide your phone number when you pay for it, i would appreciate it, as it is a required FedEx field … otherwise I will use the number 111-111-1111 to complete the shipping section of the FedEx form. While I would prefer to sell this within the lower 48 United States, I will be happy to sell to anywhere where eBay can determine the shipping costs thru their shipping calculator. Happy buying!!!
