Player's Perspective Our most recent "cherry"-picking from PRS's in-stock list rendered this fine example of something that is a piece of art to look at, to play, and to listen to. Up for grabs here is a drop-dead beautiful PRS Artist Package Custom 24! Aside from being stunningly beautiful and having a flame maple top the quality of which you simply can't get on a non-Artist Package PRS, this guitar has some cool tonal attributes to it as well. The combination of the maple neck and the ebony fretboard make this a bit brighter and more snappy than a traditional all-mahogany (and rosewood fretboard) Custom 24. The guitar will have a richer high midrange which will help it to cut through any mix. Thanks to this extra brightness and more focused attack, this will also handle any amount of distortion that you can think of with ease. At the same time, if you want to darken it up or mellow it out, that's easily doable. I'm always of the opinion that it's easier to organically darken a sound than to brighten it. The pattern thin neck keeps playability a breeze and flying up and down the neck is truly effortless. The neck is made even more perfect by the simply impeccable fretwork on this guitar. Previously undiscovered musical ideas will jump off of the fretboard with this guitar. There's a very real thing that can happen when you pick up a guitar that is just so inspiring that it makes you a better player. This is one of those special instruments! This iconic instrument was the first model that Paul Reed Smith brought to the public at PRS Guitars’ first Winter NAMM show in 1985 and has been a top seller ever since. Played by internationally touring artists, gigging musicians, and aspiring players, the Custom 24 features PRS’s patented Gen III tremolo system and PRS 85/15 pickups with volume and tone controls and a 5-way blade switch. 85/15 pickups were personally designed by Paul Reed Smith to offer remarkable clarity and extended high and low end.
