Up for sale a 1992 Gibson Les Paul Standard in excellent condition with a nitro lacquer Cherry Sunburst finish on the carved maple top! This early modern Standard comes complete with the original brown tolex hardshell case and has one of the nicer flame tops we've seen on a Standard from this era, with particularly notable tiger stripe figuring on the treble side of the body. Weighing 10lbs 6oz, this Les Paul is un-chambered, unlike many of the Standards that came after it, and the solid mahogany body has a certain sustain, punch, and fullness indicative of the early Standard models. The 490R and 498T humbuckers have a wide tonal palette, with the Alnico II magnets in the neck pickup having more chime and warmth, while the Alnico V bridge pickup has a cut and snarl that cuts through with classic Gibson sizzle and snap. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard is setup with 10-46 strings, low action and solid intonation. The neck has a medium C profile that stays moderately slender in terms of depth at the nut, growing notably deeper in the higher registers of the fretboard and filling the palm comfortably. By the time you reach the 7th fret, the neck profile is just shy of "baseball bat" chunk and roundness, with generous shoulders and plenty of heft. The frets are in great shape, with plenty of height and roundness on the crowns, and virtually no wear. The guitar plays cleanly in all positions with a straight neck and no buzzing or dead spots, and the truss rod is responsive in both directions. The nut has Gibson's traditional 1 11/16" width and the rosewood fretboard sports pearl trapezoid inlays. The headstock retains the original "Standard" truss rod cover and the guitar has been fitted with a set of Kluson-style Grover Deluxe tuning machines with slightly greened tulip buttons. All of the electronics work as they should, with the stock pickups showing clean "Gibson USA" stamps on the baseplates. The original wiring harness is untouched, with stock solder joints and CTS pots that date to the 9th week of 1992. The chrome hardware has plenty of shine with only faint surface patina, and all of the original hardware is present including the amber bonnet knobs, cream pickup rings, pickguard and switch surround. The original nitro lacquer finish is rich and vibrant on the top, with a deep cherry mahogany back and sides accented by cream binding on both the top and neck. Appealing to players that like a bit of figuring in their carved tops but also subtle enough to not dissuade "plain top" fans, this Burst is tasteful and very accurate to genuine vintage examples from the late '50s. Cosmetically, there is light, targeted buckle rash on the back near the bass side waist, along with some stray small nicks and finish scratches on the instrument as a whole. In contrast, the top is quite clean with only a few small dimples and finish scuffs, and the neck profile is smooth and free of wear. This guitar has zero cracks or repairs of any kind, is 100% original and structurally sound.
This is a well cared for and honestly played early Les Paul Standard which has been professionally setup and is ready for stage and studio use.The original brown tolex Gibson hardshell case with pink plush interior is included. The case shows some loose stitching around the handle ends, but the stock handle is still viable and all latches are intact and working. Please check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar" on the web, and feel free to call us directly with any questions at 206.399.8518.Shipping in the continental USA will be $70, fully insured and shipped via FedEx Ground.
