Up for sale, a 2015 Echopark Downtowner "Case Study" Ziricote electric guitar in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Based in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA, Gabriel Currie hand crafts each instrument using the highest quality components available and decades of experience going back to his years working under Leo Fender at G&L and Tak Hosono of Hasono Guitar Works. Only building a limited number of instruments every year, Echopark guitars have become highly sought after, ending up in the hands of musicians such as Joe Perry and Brad Whitford of Aerosmith, Josh Homme and Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age, and even Johnny Depp. The Downtowner model clearly takes its cues from the Les Paul Special, boasting a single cutaway body with dual pickups and a 24 3/4" scale length. This particular guitar is part of the "Case Study" series of guitar, which are best explained by Gabriel himself:"The Case Study Series represents the pinnacle of what I aim for in the Echopark Guitars experience. These are select versions of my models and custom built one-off creations. This is my opportunity to create solely as an artist with no limitations on specs, dimensions, etc. In a nutshell, they are 100% unique. I build these throughout the years and no detail is overlooked, they are my dream guitars."This Case Study boasts a slab African Korina body, mahogany neck, and bookmatched Ziricote top. A fairly uncommon and exotic tone wood, Ziricote grows only between southern Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize, and is prized for its complex and spiderweb like grain patterns. Weighing in at 8lbs 14oz, this guitar has ample low end grunt, plenty of midrange clarity, a detailed, spanky treble response and plenty of natural sustain that translates well through the pickups. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this guitar plays very well with low action and solid intonation. The neck has a quintessential "baseball bat" D shaped profile that has all the heft of a '59 Gibson, with a 1 11/16" hand carved, unbleached Bison bone nut. The advantage of using unbleached Bison bone is not only its warm tonal properties that match fretted notes very well, but also for its self-lubricating properties, which help stabilize tuning and intonation. The fretboard is a piece of Indian rosewood that comes from a NOS batch of CBS-era Fender stock purchased by Echopark, and sports pearloid dot position markers, mahogany side dots, and 22 medium jumbo Jescar frets that are in immaculate condition, with smooth crowns and virtually no signs of playwear whatsoever. The headstock boasts a dark mahogany cap, mahogany truss rod cover, Echopark logo, and a set of Grover "pre-war" style open back 18:1 tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The body sports a natural finish that highlights the intense figuring on the Ziricote and Korina, multi-ply herringbone binding, a real celluloid nitrate tortoise pickguard, Davies Dakaware knobs, black switch tip, and Pigtail USA aluminum adjustable wraparound tailpiece with vintage spec. steel bushings. Electronically, everything works as it should with the pickups wired to a three-way pickup selector, master volume and tone CTS pots with brass shaft and threaded collar, and a Russian military Paper-in-oil tone cap, all using Gavitt cloth wire. The pickups are both hand wound by Arcane Inc, with a mini humbucker in the neck position custom wound for Echopark that measures 12.6k, and dogear P-90 in the bridge position that measures 8.9k and has been mounted directly to the top of the instrument for added presence and bark. Despite the disparity in ohm readings, these pickups balance remarkably well and produce articulate, thick and woody tones in all pickup positions. In terms of cosmetic condition, while we hesitate to call anything "mint", this guitar is simply in phenomenal shape, with virtually nothing to mention in the way of wear as this guitar is showroom clean. This guitar is a great example of what a true professional can build when given the right materials, and would be a fantastic showpiece in anyones collection, not to mention perfect for a plethora of recording and gigging situations. The original hardshell case is included, along with the Certificate of Authenticity and case candy. Please check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar" on the web, and feel free to call us directly with any questions at 206.399.8518.Shipping in the continental USA will be $75, fully insured and shipped via FedEx Ground.
