1955 Vintage Danelectro U Series Guitar with Tweed Case and some case candy...Well here is a rare byrd, a Vintage 1955 Danelectro Bell Headstock U Series Electric Guitar--This guitar was procured from a guy that told us how he received it as a boy in 1956 and hung onto it for all these years--this guitar has on it what looks like 5 of the strings from 1956.a few details--*Clear plastic logo on head stock *Bell head stock profile*Logo'd plexi scratch plate*Aluminum bar neck design*Lipstick pup*Early 'Crown' style control knobs*Tweed case with some candy, cord, sheet music...*Missing strap buttons*what looks to be the strings from 1950's still on (missing 1st string)*block inlayThis guitar appears in Doug Tulloch's definitive Book 'Neptune Bound' about the history of Danelectro, we have posted a pic--- *According to Doug's book (use zoom feature to read caption in the pic posted from 'Neptune Bound' book) the block inlay is non-factory, and visible are remnants of 'dot inlay' on 7th and 12th frets.*Also one eBay'er thought maybe a re-fret was done to go along with the block inlay, which may be the case, as the fret wire looks like jumbo-ish style and material, rather than typical thinner fret wire we have seen on other later Dano's, although we have not seen another aluminum neck model for comparison. This explains why the nut seems slightly low, the frets are taller and the nut is set for the smaller Dano factory fret wire, appears to us then with the taller frets there is plenty of meat for a fret dressing to dial this puppy in if so desired. So maybe this guitar was a special order?? we don't know, it is unique especially with the tweed case.Contact us with your questions.
