Up for sale, a 2011 Gibson Midtown Standard in excellent condition and perfect working order. Representing a sort of middle ground between an ES-335 and a Les Paul, the Midtown features a mahogany body that has been specifically chambered with optimized tone and weight distribution in mind. This discontinued model also features a Bigsby B7 vibrato and eye-catching high gloss Faded Red nitro lacquer finish.

Using solid wood that has been chambered versus using laminated wood that has been glued together allows for a tighter overall sound that leans a little towards a Les Paul or SG. This guitar has an airy midrange, crisp top end, and healthy natural sustain when played acoustically that translates well through the Bursbucker PAF style humbuckers, with the neck pickup providing plenty of warmth and low end and the bridge pickup bringing lots of bite and cutting midrange to the table. Weighing in at 8lbs 4oz, this guitar balances well on a strap and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action and solid intonation. The neck has a profile that can be perfectly described as a slender C shape with fairly slight shoulders, a fast feel, and a 1 11/16" nut width. The neck is topped with a rosewood fretboard which also has cream binding, black side dot position markers, pearl dot inlays, and 21 medium jumbo frets that are in good overall shape, showing light wear beneath the plain strings from frets 1-9 and virtually no wear further up the neck. The guitar plays cleanly in all positions with a responsive truss rod, arrow straight neck, and no buzzing or dead spots. The headstock has a uniquely tapered open book shape with Grover Rotomatic tuners that turn very smoothly and hold pitch as they should.

The mahogany body features a maple top with a "Faded Red" nitro lacquer finish, single-ply cream binding, chrome hardware, and bright white plastic parts. Electronically, everything works as it should, with the stock Burstbuckers wired to a three-way pickup selector switch and master volume and tone knobs. Speaking of the pickups, the Burstbucker 1 neck pickup and hotter Burstbucker bridge pickup are built using genuine unpolished Alnico II magnets and wound with 42 AWG wire, just like the legendary PAFs of the late '50s and early '60s for a tone that is complex, dynamic, and harmonically rich. Topped off with a roller bridge and Bigsby licensed B7 vibrato unit, this Midtown Standard is a versatile and unique Gibson offering that is simply a ton of fun to play. Cosmetically, this guitar shows light buckle rash on the back, a few small finish chips along the back body edge and headstock, and modest pick wear in the pick path. The guitar is structurally sound and aside from light, expected play wear is a clean example that's professionally setup and ready for stage and studio.
The original hardcase and paperwork is included.
