Hi All,Im selling this amazing machine. To be honest I really don't want to ask I love the bloody thing, I have such great memories working with it but I haven't used her in years and can't see me using her again so its time for someone to benefit. I'll describe my experience with her and add a few links for you to do your own research. I bought her to record The Bonnevilles first album "Good Suit & Fightin' Boots" way back in 2008 and a few other singles for Garage Punk bands around Belfast at the time. The machine performed like a champion and I've never used it since, she's been in storage for a few years now but I can confirm shes in perfect working order with no signs of wear. ***I wanted a really hot in the red pushed sound so the overdriven distortion is deliberate, everything was in the red to get that sound. If you want a cleaner sound thats easy peasy. To whoever gets this I would say the machine is ready to use out of the box but if I were you I would give the recording heads a demagnetise / clean and I would buy a can of switch cleaner and compressed air for a wee clean. You don't have to do this of course, just my advice. There is literally an absolute world of stuff on Google about this girl but basically it was the pinnicle of portastudio technology. The high watermark for cassette recording. Check out the amount of commercially released albums that used this. They also have gained a real fan base this past few years with people coming back to a more analogue sound and appreciating the beautiful sound these pieces of art can help you create. Also, although its described as portable it flipping huge and heavy. It doesn't have a handle as its not meant for moving about, get it in place and leave it there. Some great things about this that I found useful. A powerful DBX, the shuttle feature, multispeed recording. The EQs are fantastic. Meter board was invaluable to help me get a red hot pushed sound. I recorded onto the Tascam and edited and mastered everything in Cubase. Heres a link to the manual http://thesnowfields.com/manuals/Tascam688.pdf Heres a link to a YouTube search https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Tascam+688 Heres link to the album I recorded on it https://thebonnevilles.bandcamp.com/album/good-suits-and-fightin-bootsIf you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Parcel will be sent in original box and with more packaging inside and out to secure the machine while in transit. Sent fully insured to anywhere UK mainland for £45Buyer can collect. Any inspection welcome. International buyers welcome but ask me for a shipping quote before bidding, cheers all. Andy.
