For sale is this fantastic reissue of the legendary 1967 Smuggler’s Telecaster, in which the body was routed underneath the pick guard to reduce the weight (or hide your swag;). This modification not only reduced the weight of the instrument (this example weighing only 6.4lbs), but also was said to increase the resonance of the instrument. I tend to believe that, because this is one of the snazziest-sounding telecaster’s I’ve ever heard! Check out Greg Koch’s demo video on Youtube…this thing snarls! The lightweight ash body has a thin Mary Kaye blonde nitrocellulose lacquer finish and has been given Fender’s “Closet Classic” treatment to mimic a guitar that was purchased new and put away for decades. The lightly-figured quarter-sawn maple neck has a mid-60’s oval “C” profile, and the maple fingerboard has a 9.5” radius. The pickups are hand wound ’67 Tele pickups (some say these were wound by Josefina, but I haven’t pulled them to check). This Tele plays incredibly well, and has a really unique (but unmistakably ‘tele’) voice. Comes with original Limited Edition Fender case and candy, as well as an extra white pick guard. The COA was misplaced, but Fender will replace it for around $75. I never saw the need, as a piece of paper doesn’t make me play any better ;)
