THANKS FOR CHECKING OUT MY AUCTION. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION AND MY POLICIES BEFORE PLACING YOUR BID. Check out my !Be sure to add me to your ! *Today I am listing the latest installment of mouthpieces and other sax gear which I am selling on consignment for saxophonist Frank Catalano. For those of you who may not be familiar, Frank is a true heavy hitter in the jazz world and has been featured on multiple Grammy winning albums. He is also the quintessential gear hound, having amassed a collection of over 500 mouthpieces! He now endorses and plays Jody Jazz mouthpieces exclusively so he is purging some of his massive collection of mouthpieces he has acquired over many years. Be sure to check out my other items for more great mouthpieces from this collection. There will be more to come later, so add me to your favorites list and check back later to see new additions. This auction is for a vintage Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone neck. This neck is stamped with a serial number in the 91,xxx range. This is from one of the most desirable eras of Mark VI production. It is very close to the "Brecker" era, which tend to be the most sought after horns. The neck is in overall very good condition. It appears to be original lacquer, but I can't say that it is with 100% certainty, so please look at the pics carefully and make your own determination. The lacquer is about 50% intact with most of the missing lacquer being nearest the cork where it has had a brace plate soldered onto the bottom of the tubing. I checked with Frank on this and he indicated that a couple of Selmers that he bought from the same person both had this modification done as a precautionary measure, rather than a repair of damage. I believe this to be correct as I have checked the interior of the neck with a bright flex light inserted from the tenon end (so I could see it quite clearly), and I don't see any signs of cracking on the interior. It does look like it might have had some minor pull down corrected as there is a bit of distortion to the lacquer on the sides of the tubing. If this is the case though it was repaired very well as the tubing is perfectly round, and there is definitely no cracking. I haven't played it because, sadly, I do not have a VI tenor to try it out on, but Frank said it was one of the best VI necks he's played (and I believe he has played a lot!). As a Yamaha endorsing artist he no longer has a need for it though. The price might seem a bit high, but really it is not when you consider that horns from this serial number range regularly sell for upwards of $10K! If you have a Mark VI with a missing or damaged neck, or just if you want a backup or upgrade, this might be just the ticket for you! Please feel free to email me with any questions. Thanks again for looking!
