Here is a very interesting Antique violin that is fresh out of a Los Angeles estate. I believe this is an English violin that dates to the late 18th or early 19th Century. The violin is inscribed on the upper back Presented to M??? Fred ????feldt by the Ladies and Gentlemen of Bolton December 2nd 1836. Violin is well made, with fine carving and nice wood selection. Like other English violins from this period, the purfling is drawn on. Back measures 14" and bouts are 8" and 6 1/2". Violin comes in a nice wood period coffin case that looks to have been wax sealed at some point in its life. One of the latches on the case are missing and wood has some cracks, but still in decent condition for its age. Violin was very dusty from sitting and it had old gut strings when I found it. It has a well repaired back crack and I see several old repaired cracks. Upper side by neck and bottom top area. Back has a chip at bottom edge. Overall the fiddle looks to be well preserved for its great age. I also think this could be a historically significant piece, but cannot make out the full name of the recipient. The middle name is definitely Frederick and the last name ends with feldt, so maybe research would provide answers. Great piece fresh out of an estate. This is a Used and/or Vintage Item fresh out of an Estate. Expect it to show signs of age and use.Look at pictures closely.
