The Tom Petty Rickenbacker 660/12 model was formally introduced at the 1991 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim. The Company only manufactured 1000 of these instruments so they are to say the least rather sought after and collectible.
This guitar has a Designated Model No 660/12TP. Entirely hand made in America from a solid block of figured Eastern Hardrock Maple. It sports a fully inlaid 21 fret Rosewood fingerboard and uses neck-through-body design. It also features checked binding, vintage style pickups knobs, gold pickguard and nameplate. It has vintage keys designed to Rickenbacker specifications. The trapeze tailpiece and 12 saddle bridge complete this unique and beautiful instrument.
The neck on the 660/12TP was designed to Petty's own demanding standards, slightly wider than other Rickenbackers. The guitar is in a gorgeous Fireglo finish.
Tom Petty's association with Rickenbacker goes back a long way. In 1965 Petty was sporting a hollow body double bound RIC Model 365 WB guitar in Fireglo. By the time of the "Damn the Torpedoes" album, his trademark guitar was a RIC 620/12. So it is only fitting that some 26 years after his first RIC that Rickenbacker announces its new Tom Petty Limited Edition Guitar.
