Martin Backpacker Travel Guitar Owned by me from new in the 1990s and hardly used. It has a couple of tiny dings and marks commensurate with a nearly 25 year old instrument but no major damage. Serial number is 4783. I believe that this may be from the original batch of 5000 guitars ordered when they were first put into production. Martin do not record serial numbers for the Mexican produced Backpacker in the same way as they do for their US made models so this cannot be verified but in an excerpt from Martin Guitars: A history, says: "Martin started making Backpackers in 1992/93 after Chris Martin spotted one at Luthier Robert McAnally's Booth at the Philadelphia Folk Festival. Martin received 5,000 orders at the 1993 NAAM Show."
