I am retiring as a professional musician after playing for the last 45 years! This bass has been my only electric bass and I am the original owner and purchaser. Since I am now exclusively an Upright Bass player, I would rather the instrument goes to someone who will play it.The serial number of this Stingray is B011833 placing it about 1978.70's Stingrays are considered to be the best of the series. This Stingray Bass is a players instrument. It has been used extensively for performing and recording. According to my many musician friends, this is the best sounding Stingray they have ever heard. This bass is "funky" with a growl when you dig in. It is very touch sensitive so you can bring out a variety of nuances just by right had placement and the amount of attack making this bass very responsive.A bass player colleague was curious why this bass sounds so much better than other Music Man Basses. When he unscrewed the tone control plate he discovered that the preamp of the bass was not dipped in polymer revealing all the components of the preamp. This is the only bass known that does not have the preamp dipped in polymer and maybe why the bass sounds so great. The bass itself is the regular scale, 21 frets. The bass body is made up of 3 pieces of AshThe neck is a single piece of Rock Maple attached to the body with 3 screws. The bass is a natural finish. (Natural finished instruments are considered slightly better because you can see any flaws in the wood so you get a bass with straight grained quality matched wood that improves sustain.Everything on the bass is original including original pots which work perfectly.Although there is body and neck wear from all the gigs, the bass plays perfectly. The only issue and, I am ashamed to admit it, is that the truss rod buzzes a little. It was like that when I got it and since it played and recorded fine, I never had it adjusted. The bass comes with an original Union Blues Gig Bag- which I love- It's made to last forever.
Being the original owner, I can tell you that when I bought it from the music store, it was the best of the 8 Music Man basses they had in stock. I can also say that it is the best electric bass I have ever owned and blew away the early 70's Fender Jazz Bass I had been using.
