1951 New York Bach Mercury model Bb Trumpet This is a New York Mercury Model from the last couple of years at the Bronx NY plant the when Vincent Bach was still involved in the day to day operations of his shop. The Mercury models were a less expensive model that Bach produced to keep his shop busy and provide a less expensive trumpet, but still with the same quality as the Stradivaius models. This trumpet was made in 1951 as evidenced by the shop card. This horn has an 8 mouthpipe and 31 bell in a .448 bore. This horn has quite a bit of wear to the original lacquer but shows no signs of any repair or past dent work. Engraving is clear and sharp and no signs of red rot. Matching serial numbers on all three spring barrels and under the top valve caps. Valve action and compression is outstanding. Comes with the original case showing some wear and with a fairly strong odor. There was quite a bit of variation in the Mercury models over the years, but other than the two-piece bell and lack of a third slide ring, this horn shares a lot in common with the Stradivarius model of the day.The Mercury model had an interesting history. More information about the Mercury model has been compiled by m Roy Hempley and can be found at the Vincent Bach's World website.
