Gibson Custom was introduced in 1995 with the "R9" 1959 Les Paul as their flagship model. Reissues produced prior to these first Historic pieces are now referred to as "Pre-Historic". This transition saw many improvements in the process of re-creating the Holy-Grail of Les Pauls. The current demand for these early Custom Shop R9's ranks extremely high among all 1959 reissues. These 40th Anniversary Les Pauls are a must have for any serious collector of Les Pauls. This one has a stunning top and a perfect finish. The sound of these Les Pauls are absolutely second to none and sound every bit as sweet as you would hope and imagine that it does. This One has been collector owned and rarely played. It is in excellent condition and has every single accessory and paper that it did when it left the factory. In 1999, Gibson Custom celebrated the 40th anniversary of the "59' Burst" by building 500 of their improved 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissues. The first true "Anniversary R-9" was among the highlights of the Custom Shop's first half-decade. The late 90's Reissues have seen a rise in demand, value & collectibility. Aside from the special Certificates & packaging, several steps were taken in 1999 to create a more accurate 1959 replica. All of the materials for these guitars were carefully handpicked; highly figured maple top, lightweight slab mahogany body, hand-wound 57' classic PAF humbuckers, rich rosewood fretboard w/ improved binding... everything to ensure that this limited Anniversay run would be cherished by collectors for years to come. To date, this has been considered among the most accurate and desired 59' reissues produced. This particular example is easily the sweetest one on the market!
