Concert Xiao 8 hole Shakuhachi key of E For sale an incredible and unique Concert ready Xiao/Shakuhachi hybrid flute. This flute was custom made for me by Winson Liao in Taiwan, the greatest xiao flute maker in the world. He has made flutes for the Hong Kong and Taipei orchestra. This is the best of both worlds, having the rich harmonics, strength and tone of a traditional pentatonic five hole Shakuhachi but with the 8 hole xiao finger system which with some practice and some half holing affords the player a fully chromatic instrument. In the key of E it is perfect for playing with string instruments: guitar, violin, etc. This flute is in perfect playing condition. It is made from the finest bamboo, old and aged over many years. The bamboo has a strong density and thick walls. However, you might notice two repaired cracks in the flute which I took pictures of. The flute actually came like this, as the bamboo was an excellent piece but cracked while aging. The maker cemented the cracks, bound them with clear bindings and has guaranteed the flute. The red bindings were added later by myself for aesthetic reasons. Winson has advanced the xiao flute far beyond what anyone else in the world offers.
