Ormsby Guitars - Factory Customised HypeGTR 6 string Multiscale We decided to trial doing a new finish we were thinking of for our GTR Series of instruments,. The trial was ultimately successful, but unfortunately too time consuming to offer as a regular finish on our GTR Series instrument made for us by our partners at World Musical Instruments in South Korea. It's a shame, because we would have loved to offer this as an option :( How was it done? We started with one of our standard colours, Azure Blue, and added a metallic purple burst around the edge. Then we mixed translucent magenta, with green pearl mica, and applied one thin coat over the entire body. Before the magenta/green pearl dried, we used a plastic wrap to disrupt the paint... basically move it around on the surface until it had the crazy patterns you see pictured. From there, a coat of clear, and a finish coat of satin/matter clear was applied. In the light, the green pearl comes through the translucent magenta to give the effect of a finish that is changing colours depending on the light source.We started with a "Run 1" Alder bodied HypeGTR. We then added some of our own handmade pickups (see specs below), and a 500k volume, with 500k push/pull (coil split) tone control and three way toggle. Hardware was modified with a mixture of chrome and black pieces.SPECIFICATIONS: DIMENSIONS The fanned arrangement of the Multiscale fretboard creates scale lengths for each individual string. We generally call this the "spread". For the GTR range, the spread is as follows: Six string: 25.5" - 27.5" Multiscale Due to the increased scale length on the bass side, the tension of the strings increases. We recommend you try dropping a gauge on the bottom end, for example, if you usually use 9-46's, try 9-42's. We have fitted 10-46 to this instrument.To learn more about Multiscale, please view our information page here. Body dimensions (thickness): 38mm HypeGTR. For comparison, Jacksons, Ibanez RG, Fender Strats, etc are generally 47mm. Neck shape: 20.3mm @ 1st, 22 @ 17th, D shape with round shoulders. AKA "thin U" HARDWARE: The bridges are custom made for us to exacting tolerances by our partners at Hipshot, using a variety of materials proven for longevity and tone. Hipshot machineheads (locking). TONE: HypeGTR: Our own Hot Rock A8 Humbucker (Handmade by us) features pride of place in the bridge position, with an De La Creme A2 (Handmade by us) in the neck. 500k pots for volume, a 3 way toggle, and 500k push/pull tone pot for coil splitting. Bone nut. FINISH: "Bubblegum" with satin/matte clear coat WHAT'S INCLUDED:Obviously, a guitar :) But you'll also get an Ormsby moulded hardcase, with some special case candy. We use 43awg wire, tighly wound and wax potted to make these pickups. De La CREME(Neck) Output level: 8.0k neck Magnet options: AlNiCo 2Description: similar to the Old School model, with a little more output for a very PAF like tone. Sweet singing lead tones, and reasonably clean rhythm tones. We recommend this pickup with an Alnico 2 magnet in the neck, and an Alnico 5 for the bridge position. What did we use for inspiration when winding this pickup? The intro to Sweet Child of Mine by Guns N Roses :) We use 42awg wire, scatterwound and lightly wax potted, with 1018 steel pole pieces to make these pickups.
