1942 Gibson ES300 in lovely original condition with low action An early vintage Gibson ES300 is hard to find. Apparently, they only made 150 of them. I guess most people were busy doing something else in the early 1940’s. They are even more difficult to find intact, with their original pick guard, control knobs, pickup and bridge. Here we have one that is offered without any issues and in great playing condition. The action is low and the jazz bridge still has room for adjustment. The solid top is in superb condition, with a very small amount of play wear near the control knobs. There are no splits. The Flame Maple back and sides are beautiful, with minimal lacquer crazing. The fingerboard and frets are in great shape. The back of the neck shows some honest play wear, but has a lovely feel. The body binding and purfling is all intact and it even has the original label. What’s missing / broken? Very little! These very early Gibsons are usually sold without their pick guards as they tend to fall apart. This one has the original pick guard which has a small glued split in it and it has the original Tortoise Shell pickup covering. The pickup cover has a very small split in the side (as shown in the images) I don’t believe these are the original tuners. They look the part and work well. The Pearloid fret markers have a few very small pieces missing and there is a very small amount of lacquer missing where the neck heel joins the body (shown in the images) This vintage Gibson ES300 is supplied with an original “leather-look” case. This has got to be one of the best Jazz guitars out there. In the 1940’s the Gibson ES300 was the go-to top end guitar and it remains the same today.
