1964 Jazz Bass -Rare, pre CBS. Numbers, plates, stack pots, electronics and neck date all match a late '64 Jazz bass: Back plate #- L55994 Stack pots # -250K 304-6450 Neck date - Nov 7 1964 A (1 3/8" Jazz) Tuning gears - reverse direction Pick up OHMS - 7.3 neck, 5.0 bridge A talented luthier can restore this relic to its original glory. Saddest damn thing...this rare gem has been molested and altered. I DID NOT ALTER THIS BASS, NO HATE MESSAGES! Unbelievable someone would do this....like altering a 60's Shelby GT500 into a Volkswagen Baja buggy. This condition you see is how I acquired it. Here's what I know: The UGLY: This bass was Candy Apple Red with silver undercoat nitrocellulose Laquer finish. The body was cut/altered at the lower bout, control cavity plugged & re-routed. All finish sanded off including decals. Frets were filed down to become fretless w/fret markers. The back story from the owners widow was ....the owner was wheelchair bound after Vietnam and needed to alter the bass to play seated...and he idolized Jaco P and wanted a fretless. The end product was a replacement P-Bass style neck put on since the Jazz neck was rendered nonplayable. Comes with original Jazz neck, and replacement P-Bass neck that plays fine. Control plate was ground down at lowest corner, non original mother of toilet seat pickguard installed. One tuning gear retaining screw not original (Top G string), and one volume knob has some Bakelite missing. The bass IS PLAYABLE AND FULLY FUNCTIONAL with the P-Bass neck included. Sounds quite punchy as you would expect! I am considering parting this out if necessary, but hoping it sells as a complete unit. Parts alone would far exceed $2000. Look at "completed sold" parts here on this site. This will be shipped w/necks detached and wrapped securely in bubble wrap within the box, or you can pick it up locally in Baltimore. Parkville/Hamilton 21214. This Jazz Bass will also be listed/crossposted on other music sites and the like. Buy it now $2,100 free shipping anywhere in continental USA. No international bidders or shipping. If your feedback is negative or brand new, bids may be rejected. This is being sold AS IS CONDITION, no returns. Ask all questions, extra pictures, etc as often as needed. Thanks for looking!
