Note: See important additional information I just added at bottom of description. This is an all solid wood classical guitar with solid German Spruce top and all solid Indian rosewood back and sides. There is an ebony stripe to reinforce the neck. This is the model 357PF. Although this was a test model it was special because the Luither who built it was wanting to establish himself as a up and coming Luither. Therefore he put out his best model to represent his new line of classical guitars.
I got this guitar while I was in the USAF stationed in Germany and you will not likely find them in the US. I acquired it at a small guitar shop that had high end classical guitars. It was a display test-model so it did not have a label inside of it. The Luthier, Carl Reichel, I was told, had worked as a top Luthier for Hofner guitar company and had started his own shop. This was a model placed in the guitar shop as a sample of his work. When I played it I was surprised with its power. I compared this guitar with all the best classical guitars in this store and nothing came even close to it including some models made in Spain. This guitar has a deep bass, lots of volume, strong attack, and bright trebles. It has an earthly sound with a clear mid-range. The guy told me he could get me another model with a label in it but I was so impressed with this test-model, I bought it instead. He explained that Mr. Reichel had built this guitar so that it could compete with steel-string dreadnought guitars in terms of deep bass, projection, and bright trebles. He wanted it to, not only be a classical guitar, but a guitar a singer could use before an audience. The guitar has a couple small streaks on the top and back body which is hard to capture in the photos I took. There is a ding on the edge of the head-stock and another small ding on the side - see both pics but they are really small. The neck is absolutely straight and the action is low. I use to own a Hanika model PF59 which was running 3200.00 and they were similar side by side in they way they looked and sounded. However, the low E string sounds deeper and the mid-range is more pronounce on the Carl R. - whereas in the Hanika is was more scalloped. The trebles on the Hanika sounded a little more rounded whereas with the Carl R. the trebles sounded more crisp. Overall, the Carl Reichel has a earthy organic sound verse the more traditional Spanish sound of the Hanika. The Carl R. is robust and powerful. I also owned the Alhambra Luither Indian which I think now runs about 3600.00 and they were fairly close but the Carl Reichel has a lot more definition and a little more power - I suspect it may be because of the matt finish on the top and the unique bridge which is made to maximize the angel of the strings? Also the guitar is slightly deeper in the body - about a quarter to half an inch deeper. When I bought it, the salesman had to go through a few different guitar cases to find one that the Carl Reicher would fit into and close properly. This may also have something to do with its deep bass sound? Please check out - I have posted a video on youtube titled "Carl Reichel Classical Guitar Demo" In the video, I play a 3 or 4 sample pieces so you can at least hear it. Please dont judge the guitar by my playing - I made a couple goofs but you can still get an idea of its sound. My mics are not top of the line mics - they are AKG c3000 and are decent enough to get a reasonable sound sample.Feel free to ask questions. I have always kept it cased when not playing it. I bought it in around 2004, though I'm not completely sure which year. I am a non-smoker and have a smoke-free home and I take very good care of my guitars. I am a hobby guitar player and play classical and fingerstyle. Thanks for checking and go to youtube and check it out. Comes with the case in the pictures. Go to this link to see a demo https://youtu.be/1iNWbNqlJGsP.S. I used this guitar in a CD project where I recorded all instrumental jazz guitar. The album is on the internet if you google search for Felix Marin Jr First Solo Flight - I used this guitar for most of the guitar parts... I also added the album cover in the pics where you see it pictured. You can hear how well this guitar projects especially in the tune call, "Navigating". You can hear the whole album on Spotify as well...
