The TRITON 61-Key Music Workstation Sampler features the new HI (Hyper Integrated) synthesis system -- a further advance in the pursuit of expressive PCM sound that captures every nuance of the individual instrument. By filtering and modulating a huge selection of high-quality PCM data and then processing the result in the newly powered-up effect section, TRITON can create everything from the sound of real-world instruments to punchy synth sounds. In addition, TRITON's full-featured sampler lets you record your own samples or load in data from a number of formats to create truly original sounds. 838 Different High-Quality PCM Sounds TRITON's high-capacity 32 Mbyte PCM ROM contains 425 multisamples including ,organ, guitar and brass -- everything you need for all musical styles -- plus 413 drum samples. From the edgy sounds of dance/techno synth to piano, guitar, brass, strings, and tuned percussion, every type of sound you could ever need is at your fingertips. And TRITON's high-quality 48 kHz sampling rate means that every detail of the character and expressive nuance of each sound is preserved. Superb MONO/STEREO Sampling For Making Your Own Original Sounds The TRITON features a 16 bit linear 48 kHz mono/stereo sampling function that allows data that you sample to be programmed and molded using the advanced HI synthesis system. The TRITON comes with 16 Mbytes of sample memory, allowing approximately 2 minutes 54 seconds of monaural sampling. By adding 72 pin SIMM modules* you can expand the memory to a maximum of 64 Mbytes (two 32 Mbyte SIMM modules). This lets you record up 11 minutes and 38 seconds of mono sampling. You can record one-shot samples as well as phrase samples, and use the zero-cross automatic detection function to easily create smooth loops. Stereo or mono AIFF files, Windows WAVE files, AKAI S1000/S3000 (Samples and Mapped Multisounds only.) (Floppy and CD-ROM) and Trinity format data can also be loaded into sample memory, giving you access to an even wider range of materials. (Triton cannot load Trinity format data from TFD-1S, TFD-2S,TFD-3S and TFD-4S , since they use data-compressed data.) This data can be edited using operations such as Truncate, Cut, Copy, and Reverse. The grid function lets you view the waveform with dotted vertical lines that indicate the beat resolution and tempo. Sample data can be cut on the basis of BPM values or beats, making it easy to edit the desired locations of the waveform. The Rate Convert function converts the sampling frequency --- an easy way to create currently popular lo-fi sounds. This data can be played from the keyboard immediately after sampling, or you can use it to create a multisample that assigns multiple samples to different pitch ranges. Mono multisamples are easily converted into single-oscillator programs, and stereo multisamples into double-oscillator programs. (* User-installable. Use 16 Mbyte or 32 Mbyte 72 pin SIMM modules that are either Fast Page or EDO -compatible, with an access speed of 60 nsec or faster. For details refer to a TRITON dealer near you.) Filter and LFO Sections Let You Freely Modify The Source Sound. Internal PCM samples or your own custom samples can be assigned to an oscillator, and processed in various ways by the filter and LFO sections. For each oscillator, the TRITON series provides multiple filter types, including resonant, hi and low-pass , and two LFO's with an amazing 21 types of LFO waveform. You have the flexibility to create everything from realistic simulations to aggressively creative sounds. LFO Frequency can be linked to the sequencer or arpeggiator using MIDI or TempoSync, so that the LFO speed will follow any changes in tempo. In addition, HI synthesis system lets you use an amazing 55 (29 types) alternate modulation sources. You can create sounds that have unique effects by using one of the 42 alternate modulation sources (AMS) to apply modulation. This lets you use the numerous controllers of the TRITON to control the sound to make it more expressive. Flexible routing and high-quality effects The effect section of TRITON's HI synthesis system consists of five stereo insertion effects, two master effects, one master EQ (stereo three-band EQ) and a mixer that controls the routing of these effects. 102 newly developed high-quality effects are built-in. Insertion effects can use any of the 102 types, and master effects can select from 89 types. The 102 effects include standard as well as unusual time-variant effects such as stereo random filter and ring modulator. An all-new vocoder effect can control internal sounds via the sampling input for totally cool results. The TRITON features a new BPM/MIDI SYNC function. When using an effect that has and LFO, such as Stereo Wah/Auto Wah, or a delay-type effect such as L/C/R BPM Delay, this function lets you apply modulation that is synchronized to the tempo. You can specify each delay time as a note value, easily setting up rhythms that will follow any changes that occur in the tempo of the arpeggiator or sequencer (or external MIDI clock). Of course, you can use dynamic modulation to control any effect parameter while you play by using TRITON's joystick, knobs or ribbon controller, or by MIDI messages. This effect system provides an enormous boost in expressive possibilities. Effect settings can be made independently for each program, combination, and song. In addition to the stereo Master outputs TRITON features four individual outputs, and sounds can be freely assigned to them with any effect routings that you desire. Create complex sounds using just the TRITON by itself or add external audio sources through the sampling input and process them with TRITON's insertion and master effects. So TRITON can function as a 2-in 6-out MIDI controlled effect unit. Of course, you can also apply an insertion effect to an audio source being sampled, and record the result as a stereo sample. Critically-Acclaimed Voicing Technology The TRITON contains a huge 512 programs that cover a wide range including piano, guitar, organ, synth and drum sounds, plus 16 preset drum kits and 48 user drum kits. In addition, 256 programs and 9 drum kits are provided for complete compatibility with the latest GM specification, GM Level 2*. Internal memory also contains 512 Combinations, each consisting of up to eight timbres programs). From the latest synth sounds and sound-effects for dance music to realistic simulations, Combinations can be used to produce even richer sounds and performances that have more impact by assigning programs to create layers, keyboard splits, or velocity layers, or by assigning them to controllers. Programs/Combinations/drum kits that you create can be stored in TRITON's re-writable combinations, and 64 drum kits. Floppy disks or an external hard disk can be used to back up this data, or to create your own data library. (The optional EXB-SCSI SCSI interface board is required.) * GM Level 2 is an expansion of the GM Level 1 format which allows song data that includes musical expression data to be portable between tone generators made by differing manufacturers. New Ways To Express Yourself Dual arpeggiator and RPPR functions enhance your performance. To further expand your realtime performance possibilities, the TRITON series provides dual polyphonic arpeggiators and an RPPR function. Use these features for a live, high-impact performance on this single instrument or to record in realtime into the internal sequencer, and build the results into a song. A Powerful Arpeggiator The TRITON series features dual polyphonic arpeggiators, each controlling up to 12 tones and 48-steps per pattern. Arpeggio patterns extending as much as four octaves can be running as you play or can be recorded to the internal sequencer. You can apply two different arpeggio patterns each to specific timbres in a Combination or Sequence for different patterns on each part of a split keyboard, use velocity to switch between two arpeggio patterns, and much more. There is even a fixed-note mode to easily create drum rhythms in the arpeggiator! Approximately 180 arpeggio patterns are provided, and you can create your own patterns with memory for up to a total of 232 patterns. Arpeggio patterns can be changed in realtime while you play, can be synchronized to MIDI clock for connections with external MIDI gear, or programmed to start in synchronization with the internal sequencer. RPPR (realtime pattern play/recording) function This function lets you assign sequenced phrases to individual notes of the keyboard, and play the pattern data in realtime simply by pressing various key combinations. This allows you to mix different phrases and grooves "on the fly," or play along while triggering different phrases
for exciting live performance possibilities. Each Song in the sequencer can have its own RPPR Set assignment from a total of up to 100 user patterns per song and approximately 150 preset patterns. 16-Track Sequencer With New, Sophisticated Recording Functions The TRITON series provides a 16-track sequencer with a gigantic over 200,000 note capacity so you have all the power you need to create the perfect sequence. Create Songs Effects Using Approximately 150 Preset Rhythm Patterns and User Patterns. In addition to realtime and step recordings, you can create sequenced phrases up to 99 measures long as "patterns," and arrange up to 100 patterns to create a song. You can store 100 of your own user patterns in a song (including phrases that you played using the arpeggiator), and also use the 150 preset rhythm patterns. This makes it easier than ever before to create the rhythm part -- the foundation of your song. These patterns can also be used with the RPPR function. Sixteen Preset Template Songs You can speed up the music production process by using previously prepared templates containing program selections and effects appropriate for a given musical style. Frequently-used program settings, track parameter settings, and effect settings can also be stored as one of sixteen user template songs. Track-Independent Loop Playback Each track can be individually looped, so it's easy to get a Song going with a 2-bar drum loop, 8-bar bassline, multiple 1-bar arpeggiated riffs, or a 16-bar harmony track. Individual track looping also makes it easier than ever to place Patterns into Sequence tracks. Cue List Lets You Successfully Playback Multiple Songs The playback order of up to 100 songs can be specified in a Cue List. Twenty cue lists can be stored in internal memory. By successively playing the desired songs with a specified number of repeats per Song, you can easily and efficiently create a larger composition. To change the structure of the composition, simply modify the cue list. This powerful new feature from smaller segments, like verse, chorus, bridge, solo section, etc. Support For Standard MIDI File Format Sequence data you create can be saved in SMF format 0 or 1, making it easy to edit your data on an external computer-based sequencer. A Direct Play capability lets you playback data directly from disk without loading it into internal memory for live performance. A jukebox function lets you edit the order in which songs will be played, for convenient playback of multiple songs. KORG's Own Touchview Graphical User Interface For Hands-On Operation The numerous functions and parameters of the TRITON series are displayed in a large and highly- visible 320 x 240 pixel screen. KORG's original TouchView Graphical User Interface lets you perform operations smoothly just by touching the screen. On the TRITON, not only sounds but also oscillator waveforms and effect algorithms can be selected by category for even greater efficiently. The awesome power of the TRITON is supported by a superbly user-friendly interface. Controllers For Performance Possibilities As controllers, the TRITON series provides a joystick, ribbon controller, two assignable switches, four realtime control knobs, and three arpeggiator control knobs. Alternate modulation and effect dynamic modulation can be controlled via these controllers, or they can be set to control functions of external MIDI devices.
