Raffaele Calace vintage bowl-back mandolin made in Naples, Italy, 1926 Vintage bowl-back mandolin made in Naples, Italy, by Raffaele Calace & Figlio. Labelled and dated 1926 13 1/8” scale 8 strings 17 frets Pearloid position markers 16 ribbed seams Inlaid contrasting wood pick guard Metal tail piece Early example of plastic tuner knobs All hardware, including bridge and nut, appears original Overall length 63 cm approx. Includes plush-lined vintage case, which is no longer functional Fully cleaned, serviced, and set up. Very nice condition and ready to play. There is one lengthways hairline crack in the top, which is fully stabilised. The bowl is in really good shape, without impact dents or cracks. Neck is sturdy with clean joins, at a good angle. Rare example of a clean instrument from one of the best craftsmen of the golden age of the Neapolitan mandolin.
