It seems to us like everything has been said about Jimi Hendrix that needs to be said: the man was a visionary, plain and simple. He not only played the guitar like no one ever will again, but he was an artist in his own right that expressed himself not only sonically, but visually as well - through his wild clothes right down to how he dressed his instruments. It seems natural to us that Jimi would take a liking to the Flying V; it had just a futuristic look as he did, plus you could flip it around to being a lefty without any sections of the body becoming awkwardly in your way. Jimi took his original '67 Flying V and handpainted using whatever materials he could find, mainly nail polish. He would use this V on slow Blues numbers, usually "Red House," but it eventually found its way into the hands of Mick Cox of Eir Apparent, who quickly stripped the original artwork off to make it his own guitar. Hindsight is always 20/20, Mick! In 2006, the Gibson Custom Shop decided to reissue the iconic Psychedelic V, with 300 limited instruments being handpainted by master luthier Bruce Kunkel, and now we've found this pre-owned instrument (#18 out of 300) in very good condition here at the Music Zoo. Features on the V include a mahogany body, mahogany neck with a 1-9/16" nut width, 24-3/4" scale length, rosewood fretboard with 22 jumbo frets, two '57 Reissue PAF humbuckers with outputs of 7.93k and 7.99k, individual volume knobs with a master tone knob, 3-way toggle switch, black "Witch Hat" knobs, a Maestro tailpiece, Kluson Deluxe tuners, and nickel hardware. As we stated before, this instrument is in very good condition with some scratches and dents around the body - mainly on the backside corners of the wings. Two of the silver inserts for the witch hat knobs are also missing. It includes a Gretsch strap, not the original psychedelic strap. Aside from being a collectors dream, it's an incredibly fun guitar to play, with a biting tone and a slim neck that invites you to play your favorite Hendrix riffs all day.Questions?
