Through email communications with Bernard Adelstein during the Summer of 2016, it is documented that Adelstein, Principal Trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra from 1960-1988, owned and performed with this instrument in the Cleveland Orchestra. Mr. Adelstein is one of the most influential orchestral trumpeters of the 20th century. In addition to the countless recordings with conductors George Szell and Christoph von Dohnanyi, Adelstein performed on the iconic "The Antiphonal Music of Gabrieli" with his Cleveland Orchestra brass section, along with the brass sections of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra during the 1950's and 1960's. This recording is considered the cornerstone of orchestral brass recordings. Mr. Adelstein verified via email that he owned this trumpet, and performed with it several times in the Cleveland Orchestra. He went on to say that even though his "main" C trumpet was a Bach 239-bell 25A-leadpipe (he particularly liked the high range of his 239), he did enjoy the beautiful sound of the 229L bell on this particular instrument. I have this correspondence that I can share with serious buyers only. The trumpet received a Bob Reeves valve alignment in May 2015. Also, the 3rd valve has been replated at some point in history. An after-market 3rd valve slide stop has also been added in the past. The leadpipe is an unmarked Bach 25A. The serial number on the valve casing (52,XXX) dates the trumpet to 1970.The condition of the trumpet is outstanding. The plating is 98%+. The original leadpipe (that is currently on the horn) was dismounted at some point in the past. A short pipe (possibly a 25H) was added for a time, before the original unmarked 25A leadpipe was reattached. See two pictures of the bracing near the mouthpiece receiver. There is evidence of this temporary modification. Slides and valves all move freely and are performance-ready. There is no case and no mouthpiece included in the sale. The trumpet will be shipped with insurance coverage for the sale price. No returns are permitted. Reason for sale: 2 children in college.
