Here we have a proper Gretsch USA Custom. This kit was originally ordered in 2006 as a 10',14',22' set - these drums have the Gretsch Square Badge, two years later 8' & 12' toms were added to this set, these drums came with the revised Stop Sign Badge which Gretsch returned to for a very short period before finally returning to the Round Badge which is offered on USA Custom Today. Whilst the badges don't match, these drums were ordered specifically for this kit and all the other specification such as the shell, finish, lugs, brackets etc entirely match up. If like us you are in to the cosmetics, my suggested work around would be to hide the badges behind the Rims Mounting systems, this will give the kit a perfectly matched appearance. Apart from the badge descrepancies (Gretsch have changed the USA Custom badge 9 times since 1971) this kit is an absolute stunner, a timeless finish and 'that great Gretsch sound' The set is a credit to its previous owner, all of the Gretsch Permatone resonant heads are still fitted and even two of the batter heads are still the original Gretsch Permatone Coated. Cosmetically this kit is perfect with exception to some bass drum pedal hoop rash and a few light pits on the back of the 10" tom which are not down to the wood or the colour and very mild indeed.Gretsch USA Custom drums have served as the foundation for “That Great Gretsch Sound” for over 65 years.
