The prices for custom shops and boutique guitars have gone through the roof lately. Here’s your chance to own a really outstanding guitar from one of Japan’s premier builders without spending a lot of dough.To my knowledge this is the only Van Zandt model that is relic. This STV-RS2 is 1 of 25 guitars that was sent to RS Guitarworks from Japan for relic treatment and electronics upgrade. And then sent back to Japan. Now back on this side of the Pacific, this might be the only one of this model in the U.S.
Previous owner said he got it as a gift from a girlfriend who picked it up from Ray Hennig at Ray's Heart Of Texas Music, and it was signed by Ray in the back. Ray was the guy who gave Stevie Ray his number 1. The shop went out of business and the building was torn down. This guitar was refretted and set up with a compound radius by Ed Reynolds, the same luthier who works on Eric Johnson and David Grissoms guitars. So it’s not original anymore but that neck work is very nice upgrade for people like me that don’t buy guitars to sit in a case.I gather the previous owner didn’t play it all that much, and I certainly haven’t as much as I should so frets are excellent. Weight is a hair over 7.5 lbs and it has a comfortable medium C neck profile.I’ve owned a lot of nice guitars over the years and this Van Zandt rates right up there with the very best of them. My reason for selling: thinning out the herd to get a PRS and haven’t gotten too attached to this one yet.I’m only going to be home until Saturday so BIN or make an offer soon if you want it.
