Steinway & Sons Model A1 Grand Piano 6' Serial #: 72017 Circa (1891) From the Estate of late Hollywood Actor Stephen JoyceThis Gorgeous Antique Piano comes from the Estate of the late Hollywood Actor Stephen Joyce. Stephen Joyce is an American actor of theater, television and film. The Steinway Serial Number corresponds to a New York Grand Model A1 Ebonized, 7 Octaves (85 Notes), 3 pedals, round tail completed on September 12, 1891 in Queens, NY and delivered to the customer in New York City on April 23, 1892. At one time the soundboard was repaired as evidenced by the work performed on 5 to 6 restorations. The key tops are also not ivory. The piano measures approx 6 feet by approx 56" by 40".
On the inside of the piano, it reads in large letters: Rebuilt by Robert Fairchild. Robert Fairchild is a New York City ballet star and an actor known for the 69th Tony awards. I have no idea whether this is the Robert Fairchild that is referred to inside of the piano. The piano can be played but the action is heavy and appears that the parts will need to be repaired or replaced. This piano is a great candidate for restoration and refinishing. The action, soundboard, plate and cabinet will benefit from restoration.
This piano has an ebony finish and comes with the original black piano chair.
