I have a very cool semi vintage piece of PRS history here. This is the Paul Reed Smith Swamp Ash Special, circa 1998. It's a great guitar with some really desireable wood specs that in 2017 would be super costly.First off the neck. Solid Flamed maple shaft. Not just the fretboard. The entire neck is flame maple. It looks gorgeous with it's vintage yellow tint. The body is a solid one piece lightweight piece of ash. Again modern guitars anywhere near this price point are usually going to be two pieces of sapling wood glued together. Not an old growth single carved slab body. Good wood makes for a good sounding guitar. The 90s was a great decade for high end guitars from all the big brands in my opinion. This guitar has a HSH configuration. Versatile, you can get every tone you heart desires. The tuners are top locking and i find this helps a bit with tuning stability. The tone is pure PRS. Clear and refined and musical. The Ash wood gives it a little bit of extra "pop" that strats are known for. When you hit a power chord, you get almost a percussive character out of your tone from Ash guitars. As for the condition. Good but not mint. Look at all the pics and judge for yourself. The fretboard is finished and has some spots where the finish has thinned. This actually looks like a patina effect. So on the maple you will see that and various bits of playwear. Some pick pattern playwear and back of the body has some body contact wear. The frets have minor fretwear that is even. Not jagged or heavy in one area or the other. Again just average playwear associated with age. The finish work still to my eyes looks very lustrous and clear. The case has seen better days but it does it's job, the handle was converted to a strap handle. It fits this guitar perfectly and is a durable high quality case. Now is a great time, pretty much a buyers market. To score a PRS of very high quality. I really feel this is the era that made PRS's reputation. Every guitar was like a custom shop quality guitar. Do you research and comparisons and if you come back to this guitar i think you made a great choice. That's the story on this one. Thanks for reading and considering,
