Here is one Holy Grail of cymbals. The legendary Paiste 22" Sound Creation Dark Ride Weight is 3235 grams! This cymbal has not been on the market circulating in the rounds of the vintage cymbal guys. It's been kept in the collection of a well known jazz drummer until recently. Apparently he had a great ear, being that this one of the nicest examples I've heard in the handful that I've owned. No cracks, keyhole or edge issues. It's in great shape with just some of the usual marks and little scratches you would see on a almost 35 year old cymbal. Manufactured in 1983 according to the 6 digit serial number beginning in the number 3. To quote "Gerry" giving a better description of these SCDR cymbals than I can,"Not surprisingly, this 22" Sound Creation Dark Ride sounds like NO MODERN PAISTE on the market today. In recent years, the Sound Creations have become fiercely sought after cymbals because they do no doubt capture what many people believe to be, Paiste at their best in terms cymbal making. That is not to say that I do not enjoy newer Paistes, I do, however you simply CANNOT get this sound from Paiste today. This 22" Ride really sounds different from any newer Paiste. It just does. And this specific one has glorious handiwork! Look at the closeups. As you can see, this Rare 22" Sound Creation Dark Ride is HEAVILYHammered. The impressions are deep and do not resemble modern Paistes. The bell is medium in size (not huge) and surprisingly solid. It CUTS.What I really dig about this specific 22" SC Dark Ride, is that it has a wonderful stick definition. The attack is prominent...and fairly DRY for a Paiste. The stick/wash ratio is extremely well balanced. The pitch is medium low for a 22" and the wash is Dark, slightly mellow and fairly complex-especially for a Paiste. It's different than a Paiste Traditional though. It's more dry and focused. Yet still complex. It almost has a slightly Turkish vibe to it. Perhaps that the B20 Alloy talking. This Rare B20 Paiste 22" DARK Ride is fantastic for just about anything. It's a perennial favorite among jazz, blues, and ballad players, and it's terrific definition, semi-dry, dark tone, and Paiste B20 shimmer make it a welcomed edition to any soul, R&B, funk, fusion, folk, country, acoustic, or rock/pop gig. Use it anytime you need a great dark, semi-dry Paiste tone WITH definition...that you can't get from the modern catalogue."
