Super early 1983/84 Gibson Custom Shop shop ordered Firebird VII in tobacco sunburst with the original hard shell case and paperwork. She has a two tone and three ply headstock with the classic Gibson banjo style gold tuners. No breaks, cracks, repairs or modifications. She plays phenomenal and her neck is nice and thick, but not a baseball bat.  I'd say a comfortable "D".  The neck plays with ease and has an extremely comfortable feel. The tremolo, or vibrato, works amazingly well.  I've played many Gibson lyre tremolos and this is the only one I've ever played that is dialed in and works perfectly! She is super smooth and a dream to play. You will actually use the trem on this one.  I would never dream of finding a better playing lyre. All electronics are original and un-tampered with. 3 gold Gibson Firebird pickups give this guitar great biting tone. Her Neck through body construction is made from mahogany and walnut with a beautifully bound ebony fretboard and real mother of pearl block inlays top off this attention grabbing mama. Her finish is original and is nitrocellulose lacquer.  the original purchaser has shed some light on how this bird came to be.  Here is a condensed version of his emails: "Thought you'd like to know, I placed the order for that guitar and two others back in late 83. I had them, Jim Derloo and JP Moates, make the 9 ply center. There is a companion in heather metallic and a pehlam blue non-reverse 7.  All three are consecutive serials. Look on the back-you'll see two dings from dungaree rivet-back was re-cleared on month after receiving it. Shipped to Goldie and Libros in New Haven CT... ...Gibson altered the peghead template for side mount tuners because Klusons were running low in their stock. Kluson was already out of business by that time. Yeah, I new a lot of the guys at Gibson back then and they kind of built these as a favor. It was kind of a tense time- looked as if they would go bankrupt.  Jim Durloo was president- he pushed the order through- had to pay up front $1200 for each reverse bird and $950 for the non reverse. JP Moats (now of Heritage) called up and asked how I wanted the burst to look (From the spraybooth with gun in hand-it was snowing here in CT that day). I said "a couple of inches", not really thinking- that's why the very wide burst pattern. He said "we'll make it look good". The nine ply was why they cost so much at the time. Original prints call for 1/28 walnut but all they had was 1/16th. These were the last 3 birds that came out of Nashville and almost never made it because they worked like crazy to get them done-the whole factory was being layed off. The reverse bird was shipped to Nashville and it took a whole year to get it. They lost it in shipping...."   Free Shipping in the Lower 48 USA only.
