Martin Committee Professional Bb TrumpetBig 5 Inch Yellow Brass Bell.468 Large BoreNo DentsExcellent LacquerOriginal Case and Documents, Keys and LyreSerial Number 201315- from 1956 I am selling this for a friend of mine that has spent a lifetime searching for trumpets. He has bought and sold more than a hundred trumpets over his career. A year or so ago he proudly announced that he had found the holy grail- a vintage large bore Martin Committee and one in great shape. He has treasured it and planned to keep it the rest of his daysUNTILHe found oil in the antifreeze of his expensive sports car. Engine overhaul needed- Big money. The Martin Committee will fund a portion of that repair bill. His misfortune can be your good fortune. When he found this trumpet it had bell damage. It was dispatched to Robb Stewart, the best brass repair technician on the West Coast if not the world, and a personal friend. They decided that the best course of action was to make the repair, smoothing the bell but to leave the lacquer finish intact rather than putting new lacquer on it, keeping the horn as original as possible. You can see the lacquer scars in a couple of pictures but the instrument overall is in great condition with no dents and overall lacquer better than 95% intact. The valves are in amazing condition - they look new- and make a startling loud "pop" when you pull the slides against them- Compression is superb. You can look up the story of how the "Committee" horns were designed- there was actually a committee of brass gurus that designed this. Of particular note is the number "3" on the valve casing indicating that this is the large bore model. It has a 5 inch bell and a .468 large bore. This produces a warm rich sound that will turn brilliant as you reach into the upper register and pour the air to it. I just had a very good trumpet player visit me to buy a Xeno for a student. He brought his own Bach Strad with him and played the three horns. It was striking how much better the tone was on the Committee than either of the other trumpets. Unfortunately, neither he nor his student had funds to buy the Committee. Also note that this one is a "Deluxe" model as engraved on the mouthpiece receiver. That means that it has nickle trim on tuning slides and valve casing. The more generic models were all yellow brass. You can also see the ornate engraving on the bell, reminiscent or the glory days in brass horns when factories had true artists doing engraving.Comes with the orginal case in great shape- latches and springs all work and no tears or holes in covering. Even has the warranty card and Martin info brochure. The keys are included as is the lyre. The brochure and keys even have the original string that held them to the handle when the trumpet was in the store. Sorry, no mouthpiece included, you will want to audition a piece to fit both the trumpet and your playing.I have been buying and selling trumpets and trombones for more than 15 years and my friend 5 years longer than that. This is the first large bore Committee either of us have seen. These are truly RARE, RARE, RARE, and this one is in superb condition. Calling it a lifetime find is not an exageration.Vintage instruments play differently than modern ones- a great many of us consider them significantly better. With some of the modern trumpets selling for more than $4000, this should be a very good valueI will ship to the lower 48 States well packed and insured for $55 and elsewhere for actual cost by US Postal Service. Europe and Japan should espect to pay about $80 for shipping- Australia about $100No Reserve or Buy It Now on this one- Auction will set the price and High Bidder Wins it!!!
