1963 Goldentone 1759 60W Guitar Amplifier.Q. Who makes a better half-stack than our Aussie Goldentones?A. Certainly not any American or English manufacturers!
On our way back from from visiting friends in Antarctica in 2009, we stopped for a while in Tasmania. We met another local Aussie amp collector there, who delighted us by showing his collection of Aussie amplifiers.This particular amp that is before you, used to belong to the Aussie music legend Col Joye. If you want to, you can go and wake him up and verify its authenticity. The OzValveAmps website features another picture of this same ampby its previous owner in Tasmania, where you'll see it under the section Goldentone 1764. I departed Tassie with this Goldentone 1759 amp.What can I say about this amp? Well, its probably the best of the Goldentone models, being the 60W 1759. Its got the 4 Rola 12p speakers (a beautiful tone).I've left it like how Col had it; the reverb and tremolo are disconnected for the moment, however that would be an easy fix by any amp tech.It's got the blonde tolex, and that grille pattern that you can't replicate because they've scrapped the original sowing machine that did these back in 1963. You'll enjoy that; blondes have more fun. When I had it serviced in 2009, only a few components needed replacing. I've used it sparingly since then, in order to keep it going. There is a mix of Aussie Phillips Miniwatts and AWV Radiotron 12ax7's, an AWV 6GW8, including a pair of NOS Tung-Sol 6DQ6A tubes. Plenty of good life in these yet.Overall, this Goldentone 1759 is in good condition. You could put it in a musuem for keep sake. Better yet, just plug in and enjoy it!If your in or around Sydney, send me a message if you would like to organise a time where you may view and listen to this amp.I'm able to ship this amp anywhere in Australia.
