Beautiful 9 note 57cm handpan drum tuned to perfection in the scale of D Minor, with a carry case containing a hard metal shell that fully shields the drum face for complete protection. The scale: D3,A3,C4,D4,F4,G4,A4,C5,D5 Solstice Sound Co. is a brand new developing business based in Ireland dedicated to the use and distribution of handpans, gongs, singing bowls, tingsha cymbals, art and sound healing practices. While we are in the process of acquiring more of these drums as they are created by their maker in Vietnam, please understand that the process of hand tuning these drums is a very slow and careful one. The maker begins by "sinking" the shells, which are the two steel halves of the drum. These begin as flat sheets, and are cut and bent into concave shapes for tuning. This part of the process is machine assisted. Then, the "note fields" are applied to the drum. This involves tracing an exact template of where each dimple will be hammered into the shell, depending on the size of the drum, material it is made from, and the scale desired. The next step is to carefully hammer the notes into place, a process that takes several weeks for each drum! Day by day, the maker slowly hammers the notes into the shell, taking care to create an equal amount of depth in each one as they go on. Like the application of the note fields, this part of the process is extremely specialised, and is impossible to do with machines. No manufacturer in the world has successfully mass produced handpan drums, and they remain an artisan instrument. After the lengthy tuning process, the shells are heat treated, and nitrided to prevent rust. They are then painted very carefully so as not to affect the tuning, which is very precise. Then, the instrument is ready to be played and bring the gift of its music to the world. Handpan drums wonderfully compliment a wide variety of instruments from wooden flutes and kalimbas to djembes and cajons - however, they are also incredibly beautiful when played on their own, and can be used as much for personal healing and meditation as for public performance. Much like the deep vibrations of a large gong, the rich resonance of these drums is thoroughly encapsulating and often must be heard in person to be fully experienced - however, the video has been recorded with professional audio recording equipment to do the sound justice as much as possible. The drum in the video is the exact drum for sale - we hope you enjoy listening to this demonstration.
