Up for sale, a 1966 Rickenbacker 365 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Few guitars can match the unique tonal character of a Rickenbacker, and this 365 model delivers everything that makes the most iconic era of Rickenbacker instruments desirable to players and collectors alike, with an original Fireglo nitro lacquer finish, checkerboard body binding, crushed pearl fretboard inlays, and of course a pair of original toaster top Rickenbacker pickups. For jangle, clarity, and chime, these pickups have a characteristic responsiveness that is pure Rickenbacker. Designed with fairly low output, they love to be driven hard by tube amps and really sing with a boost pedal or mild overdrive as well, for those occasions when you want a bit more than the percussive and rhythmic cut of a great clean tone. This Ric is very rewarding to play and has a clear acoustic tone that translates well through the pickups, and at only 7lbs 2oz, it's very easy on the back too! Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with fresh 11-50 strings, this Rickenbacker 365 is ready for the stage and studio. The neck has a 1 5/8" nut width with a fairly slender C profile that doesn't get too thin, yet is very manageable and easy to play. The lacquered fretboard has the iconic crushed pearl triangular fretboard inlays and original fretwire. The frets have been leveled in the past, currently showing slightly flatter crowns than stock but virtually no wear. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers with no buzzes or dead spots. The lacquer on the fretboard is glossy and completely intact, with no wear through the finish. On the headstock, the original lucite "Rickenbacker" logo/truss rod cover is present along with the stock Kluson Deluxe double line tuning machines that still turn smoothly and hold pitch well. A different set of tuners was on this guitar at one time in its life (as evidenced by the light ghosting of larger washers on the headstock face), but the original tuners are now back on the guitar and the tuner post holes retain their original diameter. All of the electronics work as they should, with stock Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup, along with the ingenious 5th knob that functions as a blend control between the two pickups. Both toaster pickups have strong output and the original CTS pots (dating to the 1st week of '66), blue molded Ajax tone caps, and wiring are present. The Accent vibrato works quite well and is very responsive, thanks in part to the roller saddle bridge, exclusive to Ric models that left the factory fitted with a vibrato unit. The stock bridge retains its original cover and has an ideal amount of height off the body to provide both low action and the proper break angle for the vibrato. This allows for ideal sustain and tuning stability, and the Accent vibrato is capable of quick dives and surfy shimmies with ease, jumping back to the original pitch with a surprising amount of accuracy. The original Fireglo nitro lacquer finish is a very deep and vibrant red with a rich amber center to the burst and no touchups or overspray. There's a richness and saturation to this burst rarely seen on a vintage Rickenbacker, and the edges of the body on the back are a shade of burgundy that borders on chocolate brown. The checkerboard binding provides a great accent to the various shades of red, and the chrome on the pickup covers and vibrato unit has plenty of shine. There is moderate surface patina on the bridge base and saddles and light buckle rash on the back of the instrument, although nothing through the finish. The bookmatched maple on the back of the guitar has very straight and prominent grain, and there is only faint finish checking on the body horns and back of the headstock. Overall, this vintage Rickenbacker has been extremely well cared for over the past 50 years and has a tone to match its good looks! The original silver hardshell case with plush blue interior is included. The Rick-o-Sound stereo splitter box is present as well, and this rare accessory is quite valuable on its own!
