Up for sale an original 1974 Fender USA Jazz Bass NECK, converted to fretless. Fender didn't produce a Jazz Bass fretless version up until the mid 80's, so the only way to have a 70's fretless Jazz Bass has always been to have one defretted. In this case the original fretboard was replaced with an unlined one and a new white binding was fitted with the dots in the correct position for a fretless. The neck had no date or visible number but a name stamp with "X.Armenta" is visible on its base and this is a proof of its originality, but the original plate that came with it (no.513xxx), dates to 1974, probably one of the latest 4-screws Jazz Basses produced.
Original string retainer is included. The fretboard has some marks caused by the roundwound strings (visible in the pictures below).
The headstock has the typical orange colour of this period, caused by the nitro finish used to protect the logo decal; it has the typical orange colour of this period the original logo but there are many cracks on the finish and a small repaired hole near the bushing of the A string.
The truss rod is perfectly working.I'm selling the neck alone here, but I also have the original neck plate and tuners that can be bought together if anyone is interested.

La tastiera originale è stata sostituita con una tastiera fretless "unlined" (senza linee dei tasti) e il binding (profilatura laterale in plastica) cambiato con uno con i punti segnatasto nella posizione corretta per un fretless. Il manico non ha data o numeri identificativi visibili, ma riporta il timbro dell'operaio che l'ha montato "X.Armenta" a garanzia della sua autenticità. La placca reggimanico originale (n.513xxx - venduta a parte), permette di datarlo al 1974, probabilmente uno degli ultimi Jazz Bass prodotti con manico a 4 viti.
È montato il reggicorda originale.La tastiera ha alcuni segni causati dalla frizione delle corde ruvide (visibili in fotografia).
La paletta ha il caratteristico colore arancione di quegli anni, provocato dalla finitura alla nitro sul lato frontale per proteggere il logo; quest'ultimo è originale (ho un altro Jazz Bass del 1972 e sono identici), ma la vernice ha diverse incrinature e si nota un piccolo foro riparato vicino alla rondella della meccanica del LA.
Il truss rod funziona perfettamente. Il manico è venduto da solo, ma posso anche aggiungere la placca numero di serie originale e le meccaniche per chi fosse interessato.
