Vintage Late 1970s Ludwig Oyster Blue Super Classic Drum KitBring the thunder! Affectionately known as 'Bowling Ball', late '70s Oyster Blue, maybe not as classy as it's '60s predecessor but still a stunner - specially when they're as tidy as this! All original. Kits this old are never perfect and this one is no exception. The odd bump and scuff etcetera, but overall, it is certainly in very good condition. Being from the age of rock, these drums have the cut and volume, Ludwig having brought in the thicker 6 ply shells in '76 - in obvious response to all those amps turned up to 11. In parallel with the more thunderous sounds, the hardware got far sturdier, the 1/4 'arc spurs' on this kit are one of the indications of that. One thing that never fails to surprise about these later '70s kits is their tone - 6 ply, medium thickness, Maple/Poplar shells, pretty standard right? What's the big deal? How is this kit different from a modern Pearl Masters or Gretsch Renown? The TONE! They have that classic Ludwig sound. That Americana warmth and punch that is synonymous so much of our favourite music. It must be magic.Great condition, it's previous owner hasn't cleaned this kit up before he moved it on, it's just been very well looked-after. This kit is quite the looker, very good condition and the sound... well you know old Ludwigs - BOOM! As 'Greg the Ape', one of our non-vintage regulars said when he heard this kit said, "Whao."Condition:Rack Tom: Very good. The hardware is all pretty tidy - the most mild beginnings of pitting on the hoops but so minor it's not even visible until you get up close! Tiny bit of wrap-lift on the seam - typical of it's age but very minor. General gig-wear, that's about it.Floor Tom: This is in the same great condition as the rack, bit of age on the metal work but again, very minor.Bass Drum: Again, very good like the other two drums. The hoops have the odd patches of wear on the paint but again, very minor. The only thing that is really worth mentioning is the wrap lift/slip/separation. This is only one of the two seams on the underside, no sign of worsening, no problem - again, typical of kits this age and really, when you see this kit in real life, you can't see any of this stuff and you just don't care. This is a brilliant example of how these old kits should look if they're looked-after!Included:13" x 9" Late '70s Ludwig Oyster Blue Rack Tom #1736477 - Post date-stamping era16" x 16" Late '70s Ludwig Oyster Blue Floor Tom #1736479 Post date-stamping era22" x 14" Late '70s Ludwig Oyster Blue Kick Drum #1790935 Post date-stamping eraOriginal wrap finish, hardware, dampers, later black wing bolt on tom holder plate intact (no tom holder included), etc., this kit is a belter. The shell construction, kick spurs, badges, Oyster pattern and serials all point to this kit sitting about 1978. As you can tell from the ageing of the kit itself and the close serial numbers - this is very likely a factory outfit. Very cool. Those looks, the history and all that vintage tone to boot that Ludwigs are famed for but with the practicality of a more contemporary build and application. Is this the kit you've been waiting for?***There are no other drums or hardware included with this lot, only what is listed above. The snare stand is for display purposes only.***Postage and packaging to Mainland U.K. £29.99Postage and packaging to selected parts of Europe £179.99We are willing to ship world wide, please message us directly for a quote.
