Lachenal 40 Button Anglo Concertina in D/A: Rare and Unusual for restorationThis is a very unusual concertina that will require an element of restoration before it can be used to its full potential. The ends appear to be made from rosewood, but seem to be hand carved and varnished, as well as having unusual aluminium fingerboard to the outside. The buttons are bone, and the bellows need replacing as their structure doesn't really provide enough strength to repair. The action is lachenal style lever. The reeds are mainly steel with a few brass reeds. There is one loud reed on the bottom row, left hand, that will need looking at. There are no straps. There is an unusual case, of marine chest style, that is internally distressed and needs work on it.The real beauty of this concertina is its unusual key and pitch. It is flat pitched but sounds absolutely lovely. It would make a terrific restoration project for someone wanting an instrument for solo play and it is fast enough in response to play Irish traditional. In my view it would be better to leave the tuning as it is, rather than tune to concert, but that would be for the new owner to decide. This concertina would be ready to play with new bellows and straps. I'm putting it up at a realistic price for the rare item it is, but it is a restoration project so that is taken into account.
