Here is a unique, one-off, Masterbuilt Limited Edition custom shop Stratocaster With low serial number Cunetto John Cruz neck (!) for all of you who missed the limited-edition 83 black ones or just didn't have the $ 30,000 lying around that these command now.     ***SO THIS IS AN ALL FENDER CUSTOM SHOP GUITAR, BUT NOT ONE OF THE 83 JOHN CRUZ BLACK ONES****   This Stratocaster started life as a 1960 custom shop strat, and includes the limited-edition John Cruz Masterbuilt pickups. These pickups are the worth the price of admission alone and they are said to be the closest thing to the actual Black One pickups (also John Cruz Masterbuilt), but the coolest thing about this is that we found an amazing very early custom shop neck made by John Cruz with COA! Everything checks out, the serial number, all the stamps, etc. Just check the pics.   The Neck I really fell in love with this '99 custom shop neck, that turned out to be an early Cunetto low-serial number Masterbuilt John Cruz part (with COA)!!!! Just like John Mayer's original, this neck came with six in-line Kluson tuners. I had to modify the neck to fit the gold Fender elite tuner buttons. That is why you can still see the screw holes and indentations of the original tuners, just like on Mayer's Black one (which got the elite tuners fitted later as well), and you will also see these holes on the 83 John Cruz limited Black ones. It has a premium dark Rosewood fretboard and a 9,5 inch radius, a 1-11/16 nut width, vintage heel adjust truss rod and medium 6105 frets. The shape is a fat U-shaped no-caster profile. This fat shape is very easy on the hands, but more importantly, it really adds beef to the tone. You will also get the original nickel neck plate and COA that came with this guitar.   The Body The body is a custom shop 1961 body from 2011. It was stripped and refinished in nitro (no poly base coat like most custom shop strats). This is the only Black One you'll find with an original nitro yellow undercoat coming through, because normally the yellow parts are just painted on afterwards. It is also one of the few with the correct paint job on the side of the guitar (which is usually left out). From the close ups you can also see the yellow base coat. The Nitro has hardened an now sunk beautifully into the grain. In the close-ups you can see the serial number stamped in the body as well as all the usual 'relic' and 'laquer' indentation and other stamps that identify this as an original Fender Custom Shop part.   The Pickups The thing I am most excited about, are the pickups. These John Cruz master designed Wildwood 10 pickups are just perfect. A friend of mine has one of the original 83 limited-edition black ones and playing them side-by-side, I really prefer the sound of these pickups, though they were very close. They cannot be bought after-market, and only come with Wildwood 10 guitars.   They sound absolutely amazing in my opinion. They are quite similar to John Mayer big dippers, but with much more punch and clarity. John Mayer actually used them in his masterbuilt '62 sonic blue strat he used for Gravity during the John Mayer Trio tour.   I also wired the second tone control to the bridge pickup.   The Case   We also upgraded the Fender Custom Shop case that came with the guitar. We had custom templates made to give the case the same graphics as John uses on all his road cases. It comes with all the original case candy and certificate of authenticity as well as the unopened Custom Care envelope. The original neck plate is also part of the deal.   The Hardware I got all the Fender Custom Shop gold hardware aftermarket through a Fender Custom Shop dealer. All reliced like the original black one. With all that gold hardware, we couldn’t just screw the original chrome neckplate back on. It wasn’t easy, but we got our hands on a gold John Cruz neckplate, just like John Mayer’s black one. That’s not even on the 83 masterbuilt copies!! Expensive but worth it. This guitar is a perfect copy of the original black one!   In short, you have everything that the original Black One and even better specs than the 83 limited Black Ones have, namely all original custom shop parts and all original Masterbuilt custom shop quality and an original John Cruz neck plate, without the price tag. I have also included a photo of the inside of the body and underside of the pickups to show it's all original and authentic. Happy hunting.   To sweeten the deal, we also included some cool tour memorabilia. First off is the signature edition Tour Book with some cool pictures of the Black One. Also you get an original back stage pass for an old show and finally come cool Continuum picks! Just such a cool total package for a fraction of the price of those 83 JC masterbuilts!
