Up for sale is a Fender 50th Anniversary American Standard Stratocaster, in tobacco burst style body finish. This guitar is in excellent-to-mint, pretty nearly -untouched condition. Knowledgeable Strat fans will know that this model was made for one year only- 2004, the 50th anniversary of Leo Fender’s iconic design. The design is meant to call up the vintage vibe of those original Strats. As one detail, the bodies for 50th Anniversaries are solid ash. All of these special-run, American-made guitars are finished in a throwback, tobacco-style burst. It’s a traditional color, a tiny bit greenish and definitely not an overly brownish hue. That finish plus the ash body give you a grained appearance. The pickguard is also retro- single ply, in a slightly faded parchment color. But what the 50th Anniversary especially is, is a tone machine. The 50th is equipped with a special set of pickups that are meant to be similar to the construction of the actual 1954 models. Some people say they’re actually Fender’s own 54 Custom Shop pickups, others say they’re slightly different versions strictly for this model. In any event, the pickups give a hugely Stratty, bell-like tone that stands out amongst Fender models, to my ears. Big, fat, yet clear and ringing- this guitar just sounds like a signature of the Strat sound. It’s certainly not a quiet set of pickups, so expect some noise on standby. But when played, the tone is full, chimey, and beautiful. This particular guitar is in very fine, pretty nearly untouched, and totally playable condition. The neck has a nice smooth maple finish, with a little bit of lengthwise grain. This is the smoother, more satin-type neck finish rather than the more heavily lacquered one in recent model years. Skunk stripe down the back, as you can see. One string tree on the head, as you can also see. Stored in a smoke-free, pet-free home area. I’m reluctant to call any instrument mint, but this one is at least pretty close if not just downright factory condition. The body finish is thick and glossy, the neck is straight and unblemished, the 22 frets look unworn. I doubt you’re going to find a 50th in any finer basic condition. The package here is factory complete, and includes the vintage tweed case, which has a little scuff on the outside. Serial number: Z4161945. I don’t have a scale to weigh the guitar, but it’s probably a little heavier than your typical American Standard, due to the harder and denser ash body. A lot of people say that the 50th Anniversary is the best factory-run instrument Fender ever produced. Much more sought after today than the 50th American Deluxe companion that was produced the same year. I think it sounds as good as or better than many Custom Shop guitars. All in all, it’s certainly a great-looking, beautiful-sounding rendition of a classic rock and roll axe. You could stick the guitar in Buddy Holly’s hands and no one would blink an eye. At a cost today that’s less than your regular production American, it’s on a totally different level. But it’s also a reliable workhouse, updated with modern electronics and other touches. You could use this as a working Strat every night of the week, if you wanted to. Will ship to continental U.S. buyers at the indicated shipping cost. Happy to ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico if you pick up the incremental cost. Also happy to ship to international buyers using the eBay international shipping program. Many thanks for viewing.
