OPEN TRENCH FROG VIOLIN BOW, MIRECOURT, circa 1830 all parts original
The highly flamed dark brown round stick, the ebony frog with shield of mother of pearl (similar to Gaulard style), the bone adjuster, weight 63 grams
According to J.F. Raffin a beautiful specimen/French violin bow "très probablement"/made by Charles Joseph Théodore Guinot ca. 1830. A truly very interesting bow maker, whose style was very much influenced by the work of E. Pajeot and Fonclause. The bow is elegant, strong with an excellent robust sound of a superb quality. The length of the stick is 73.2 cm.
Weight: 63 g.Served his apprenticeship in Mirecourt (his hometown). His early style of bow making was very much influenced by Fonclause. He later was more inspired by Pajeot-Maire and even in some cases by Adam. He produced excellent bows.
"Not surprisingly, his (Pajeot's) style of work strongly influenced his contemporaries, and his ideas can be glimpsed in the later works of Nicolas Harmand, Jean Adam (bow maker) (Dominique GrandAdam) and his son Jean, Charles Guinot, Joseph Gaudé, Georges Ury, and Nicolas Mauchard, this last almost certainly a pupil or employee for many years." -[1] Philip Kass
