50's Two Tone Hardtail Relic Strat guitar
This is a lovely guitar, lovingly put together over months and with all the right age related nicks and scrapes and scars. It's not a beaten to death with a chain relic; but carefully and sympathetically aged in every way from the cellulose paint to the plastics and everything in between.
*Two piece alder body (built by guitarbuild) finished in a 50's type two tone burst. A clearer finish to the sunburst than the later 60's type. The burst graduation has been faded to show a slight red/mahogany tint to it where it was once stronger and thicker. Lovely thin paint, cracked and sunk into the grain.
*Allparts neck, slightly re profiled on the back, maple one piece and pretty heavily worn but not 'damaged'. The edges have been softened, the fret ends rounded. A very smooth comfortable neck to play and has that characteristic snap of a hardtail.
*Kluson nickel tuners.
*Aged white PVC guard, yup, they remained pretty white; but the pickup covers and knobs have all been aged to a slight cream complete with associated rounding and dirt build up.
*Solid bridge plate (fender); and nickel saddles.
*Alnico pickups, CTS pots and so on.
This really is a cracking guitar and utterly convincing.
I've done a lot of work on refinishing real deal vintage guitars, both fender's and gibson's and my guitars are all over the world now having been bought by players and collectors alike. Never had anything but surprise at how authentic the work is up close (unfortunately pictures never really capture the subtle details); and my work has always been compared right up there with the few people in this game that really know what they're doing.
This is a guitar that won't disappoint.
You'll have to look hard for a 'relic' guitar that looks like this, especially at this price. I'm not a fan really of the word 'relic' as it suggests hacked up, badly applied finishes. Having worked on many vintage finishes; these are bettere described as a recreation of an old cellulose finish. They are painted pretty much perfectly from the start and then all aged to suit. Takes hours to do; but they look and feel just right.
