I have owned this drum for over 20 years. I originally purchased the drum with several other classic Ludwig snares from a studio owner in Nashville. He was the original owner. Serial number is 605873 which indicates it was made in 1968. It is definitely one of the good ones with the classic Bonham tone and plays with incredible versatility... this drum is not a dud. It has a broad tuning range all while maintaining the classic overtones that this snare is known for. It has wonderful stick response with a plush center and lively yet controlled edges. It sounds fantastic through the whole tuning range.The drum is in what I would describe as very good condition for its age. It plays beautifully as mentioned. It shows some wear and age as expected including some scratches, small dings, slight tarnishing/pitting, etc to the shell. The throw-off works well. The hoops look very good. The batter hoop has a ding which I can catch slightly with my fingernail. The lugs have a few scratches and dings with a tad of pitting. The tone control is original and is the round knob variety. It works fine, but the rivet holding the disc/felt in place is wobbly. Set up with Puresound wires. Will come fitted with a new Ludwig clear w/ silver dot batter head.
