Here's a classy little Telecaster that I believe dates from around 2010, it’s got a lot of charm to it, solid alder body, good maple neck with period correct ‘slab’ board, rosewood is nice and dark with a tight grain too. This is the first American Telecaster Custom I’ve had, previously I had a nice Japanese reissue from the early 90’s, which was a great guitar but didn’t quite match up to this one in terms of build quality and tone. The American Vintage series from Fender has been a solid line in the catalogue since it’s inception in 1981, the Telecaster Custom was introduced later in the 90’s and has just recently been discontinued. This model here is not a museum piece, it has battle scars from use as well as more player-friendly neck that has had the majority of the lacquer removed from the back, making it more of an eggshell finish, which is only noticeable in the hand, not in the eye. Other than the marks seen on the body, the guitar is in great shape and is ready to be taken out and thrashed, it weighs in around 7.5lbs and is really resonant and very loud acoustically, which is seldom found in Telecasters (in my experience) Fret-wise, there is no wear whatsoever, this guitar had a really high action on it when I bought it last year, the previous owner was using it for slide guitar, which he openly admitted was overkill for a guitar of this calibre. It has since been set up with a comfortable action, no choking and a good set of Ernie Ball 10’s.Electrics are completely stock also, no mods. There are no accessories with this Tele, the guitar was bought at a gig in a padded gig bag, the deal also meant that the original case was kept by the previous owner, I have since purchased a genuine tweed Fender case it, which has never really left the house either. Another interesting point was that this guitar was nearly sold to Terry Reid a few weeks back at one of his shows in my hometown, Terry being the greatest singer you’ve never heard of got chatting to me through a mutual friend regarding Telecasters, I enquired about whether he missed his famous 50’s Tele that he sold to Joe Bonamassa and we got talking, I showed him this Telecaster and he was very impressed, however, he told me that he didn’t need any more guitars! He very kindly signed the back of the pickguard for me, on that note, I purchased a Fender three-ply black guard to make this guitar slightly more stealth than usual when it suited me, both guards, including the original Terry Reid approved one are included. If you have any questions regarding this guitar, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
