The Thai gong circles (Kong Wong Yai) are a matched pair - one is lower pitched and the other is higher pitched. The low circle has 16 gongs and the high circle has 18.This is a perfectly matched pair of gong circles, they have been together since I got them 30 years ago, and I would like to sell them as a pair. They are tuned by a plug of heavy material in the nipple of the gong. That material is traditionally a mixture of lead filings and beeswax which can be heated and crammed into the nipple. All the gongs on these two instruments are tuned this way, except 2 or 3 with which I used metal epoxy glue and lead fishing weights - as an experiment to see if that was another good way to tune them. And it is another good way to tune them. Remove some material, by easily scraping or drilling, and the pitch goes higher - a half-step or whole step is easily possible.Add some material, and the pitch will go down, again - a half-step or whole step is easily possible. Both gong circles are perfectly in tune right now - and will stay in tune, on its own, for many many years. I have had these two circle for about 30 years. In the first 5 or so years they need tuning adjustment now and then - that is true with any new or fairly new gongs. After that they are ‘settled’ and stay very well in tune for many many years. The low circle is tuned: D E F# G A B C D E F# G A B C D E The high circle is tuned: C D E F# G A B C D E F# G A B C D E F# The high circle starts with the 7th note of the low circle - so part of each circle is in common.NOTE: Each circle is originally 1 rather big semicircle, and years ago I cut each in half, which makes it MUCH easierto carry them, and to fit them into various cars. The weight per section of the low circle is 31 and 27 pounds, and for the high circle 21 and 20 pounds. Comes with 2 sets of mallets, and plenty of lead and beeswax tuning material.Shipping to US address only.If the buyer is a day or two driving distance from San Francisco pick-up can be arranged, thereby saving a lot of shipping costs.Buyer can look into trucking services, which might be better in many cases.Because of size and weight shipping will be high. My estimates with USPS, San Francisco to New York, may be around $700,and, of course, lesser and lesser the closer one is to California.Weight and Dimensions: Low Circle: 31 pounds, 45x25x12, 27 pounds, 46x24x12High Circle: 21 pounds, 40x21x11, 20 pounds, 40x21x11
