Up for sale, a 1977 Fender Mustang Bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order. 100% original aside from a replaced volume pot, this Mustang Bass delivers a unique tone representative of the maple fretboard and ash body, two features fairly unique to the '70s iteration of this classic model. With a shorter 30" scale and flatwound strings, this bass has the detail and top end clarity associated with maple, as well as the complex midrange and punch that comes with ash. The flatwounds allow for thick, thumpy low end and there's still plenty of treble frequency content to give the tone a touch of growl. At 8lbs 12oz, this bass is easy on the back too and quite present acoustically. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Mustang Bass for optimal action and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a round and fairly chunky profile with generous shoulders, and the profile depth stays very consistent as you move up the fretboard. The original frets are intact with well rounded crowns and virtually no wear, playing cleanly up the neck. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width and is original to the instrument. On the headstock, the original tuners are intact, holding pitch as they should, and the flatwounds currently on the bass are an older set of LaBellas that have plenty of tension. All of the electronics are stock save for the swapped volume pot, and the original gray bobbin split coil pickup has strong, even output across all strings. The original CTS tone pot dates to the 33rd week of 1977, which matches the S7 date codes on the headstock and underside of the pickguard. The chrome on the bridge and control plate is particularly shiny, and all of the original plastic parts are intact including the thumb rest, pickup covers, and Strat-style knobs. The grain of the ash body is highlighted by the vibrant sunburst finish, and in terms of cosmetic wear the bass shows an assortment of small nicks and dings around the edges of the body and lower bout of the top. The most notable wear through the finish is along the treble side lower bout edge of the body, but overall the bass has been well cared for and honestly played over the past 40 years.
