BANJO – 1920s Ludwig Kingston 4-string Tenor Model
The Ludwig Kingston Model Tenor Banjo, c. 1926, occupied the top of the Chicago company’s banjo line. This banjo is extremely ornate and still is a wonderful playing instrument. This Ludwig Kingston Tenor Banjo has a natural lacquer finish, walnut neck and (bound) resonator with a beautiful band of marquetry, ebony fretboard, diamond pearl inlays, 19 frets, 10-15/16" chrome plated brass rim, arm rest, top tension adjustment, logo on tailpiece, headstock with engraved inlay and script logo. Resonator edges are multi-laminated as well. It was purchased new and has been carefully maintained in one family since it was played professionally in St. Louis Dixieland bands many years ago. It has a new head with a new specially manufactured chrome plated brass rim to replace the original pot metal rim. Likewise one of the tuners has been replaced and the original tuner is still kept with picks, strings, an extra bridge and head tightening tool in the middle compartment of the original hard case. Overall length is 34 in. (86.4 cm.), 10-15/16 in. (27.9 cm.) diameter of rim, and 3 1/4 in. (8.2 cm.) deep. Scale length is 23 in. (584 mm.). Very good condition for the age. This banjo plays perfectly and has an outstanding sound. While this could easily become a collector’s item, it is still a great player’s banjo! A bargain at $849.00 with FREE SHIPPING!
