The "Leo's Music" Limited Edition 1959 Les Paul Standards are among the most sought after & collectable guitars by true Les Paul enthusiasts . Gibson's production totals for this model estimate less than 500 shipped in the USA between 1981-85, with a few hundred more shipped overseas; that is less than 200 per year! Leo's 1959 reissue was introduced in 1981, inspired by the overwhelming demand for a true 50's Les Paul reproduction. The partnership with Leo's was the first whole-hearted effort to accurately recreate the magic of a real 1959 Les Paul burst; Rounded 1-piece mahogany neck, 1-piece body, vintage-correct Kluson tuners, narrow binding in cutaway, 'Tim Shaw' PAF reissue pickups, 2-piece center-seam flamed maple top, etc..The Leo's models built in Kalamazoo, which have the eight digit serial number inside the control cavity (See Pics) are considered a bit more collectible.Note:The official line when Gibson had marked factory seconds was that these guitars had a cosmetic flaw that didn't otherwise affect the playability or structural integrity of the instrument. Often the flaw was hard to find if the guitar was stamped with the word "second" this was probably the most noticeable defect. The second designation pretty much becomes meaningless in a used guitar.
