I am absolutely gutted to be selling my PRS Al Di Meola Prism Signature Guitar. This is the best guitar i've ever owned, but I have a shed load of bills to pay so this beauty has to go :-(I bought it brand new in 2009 and it's the most expensive guitar i've ever bought! The build quality of this guitar is stunning.
It's got a rainbow prism colour scheme stained maple "9" top that, in true PRS style, still allows the beauty of the wood to stand out.
The guitar has a Peruvian mahogany back and 10" radius neck with a 22 fret Mexican rosewood fingerboard.
The neck features a custom Al Di Meola neck carve which is on the thinner side front-to-back, but is a bit wide across the fretboard. I love this neck!
Other appointments include grommet-style locking tuners (this guitar has rock solid tuning), abalone bird inlays, a tremolo bridge and 1957/2008 pickups. The pickups, which PRS aficionados refer to as 57/08's, are made with wire produced by the same machine that was used for the much sought-after Gibson PAF pickups.
The story goes that PRS bought the original winding machines and the original wire used to make the PAFs was still on them! And that's what these are pickups made from.
There's only a limited amount of this wire available and when it's gone, it's gone. A pair of these pickups sold not so long ago for about £700, which makes this guitar looks even more of a bargain!!!
Whatever, these are some of the sweetest (and hottest) sounding pickups you will ever find and they are coil tapped so you have an even wider variety of sounds to choose from. The only negative points are that the case shows some wear & tear from going in and out of the boot of my car and when I first owned it (before I realised what was happening) a few times the whammy bar has managed to get loose from the storage box in the neck area of the case and bounced around a bit knocking a few chips of laquer from the edge of the neck. It's just cosmetic, it doesn't affect the playing of the guitar and you'd be hard pushed to notice it normally as the worst of it (shown in pic) is to the rear edge of the bottom of the neck. The pics make it look a lot worse than it is!
The whammy bar now lives in a bag in the storage box so it can't escape.
Also I caught the rear upper most point of the headstock "horn" on something. It hasn't dinged it but it has caused the lacquer to lift slightly over about a 2mm area.
This is all really minor stuff and will only concern you if you're a collector looking for a museum piece.
I'm happy provide hi-res photos of everything if you message me.If ever I come into money again I will buy another.  Best guitar i've ever owned (and i've had a LOT!).And the pictures don't do this guitar justice. It looks loads better in the flesh. It's gorgeous.Comes with all the original "case candy" (tags, warranty, etc) too.It plays amazing and sounds amazing. This is a quality guitar.Don't pay much attention to the postage costs, I just put something in so I could list it.
The price can be rather ridiculous if it's insured for the full value (like nearly £200), so if you're serious about buying it, contact me and we'll sort something out. I may even deliver personally depending on distance.
Pickup Switching: Volume and push/pull tone control (for coil tap) with 3-way toggle pickup selector
